RVA’s brightest young star continues to make headlines this year. After getting scooped up by Matador, one of the biggest indie labels in the country, she’s now making “best of” lists along side Beyonce and David Bowie.
Time’s list includes some real heavy hitters, Like Bowie and Beyonce, but also up and coming folks who have been making waves for a bit, like Chance the Rapper and Kendrick Lamar, but coming in at number 4 is our hometown hero, Dacus.
The Time list is in slideshow form and loads like a cube trying to roll up hill, so we’ve saved you a step and pasted what they said below:
This 21-year-old singer-songwriter from Richmond, Virginia, crafts plainspoken poetry that depicts loneliness and longing. Her rich, low voice is nestled among gorgeously fuzzed-out guitars that recall college rock’s best moments while also sounding perfectly tailored to 21st-century tastes.
And if you’ve forgotten what she sounds like, check out her video for “I don’t want to be funny anymore” (Shot here in RVA, read more about that here!) below:
Be sure to keep up with Dacus via Facebook as she continues her road to success.
