Rising Prince George, Virginia artist, Doug Finesse recently released a new single off his upcoming self-titled EP, Doug. Finesse has been releasing music since he was 16-years-old, however, he didn’t start to take music seriously until a few years ago.

“I started to take music more seriously my freshmen year of college,” said the Old Dominion University student.

The 21-year-old old released his latest single “Unusual” featuring Richmond’s own Solomon Bullet on May 12 and the track fuses rap and rock and roll to reflect a life of partying.

The hook of the song draws the listener in with this ambience and lo-fi sound with the repetitive phrase “show out!”

“Unusual is for the people who work all week and can’t wait to drop their responsibilities and turn up on the weekend,” said Finesse. “This is the song you want to bump when you want to escape the stress of life and just enjoy yourself.”

“Everything I record is at my brothers spot,” said Finesse. “That’s where we recorded one of my favorite songs, ‘Celebrate.’”

“Celebrate” was shot and created by fellow ODU student Dawit N. M., who created artist/entrepreneur spotlight series Contour.

Finesse also released a track called “Yeah, Whatever” earlier this year in collaboration with #1DRAFTPICKREEM, a producer from Norfolk.

“Have you ever met that person that’s always lying about what they’re doing, and you give them that ‘yeah, whatever’ reaction… that’s exactly what the song means,” said Finesse.

Doug, the hip hop artist’s self-titled EP is set to drop this summer.

“This project will help me stand out more,” said Finesse. “My style can’t be described because I feel like I’m an unorthodox type of artist.”

Finesse said this new project is definitely a reflection of his musical influences.

“I am influenced by everything around me, however, my musical influences come from artists such as Wiz Khalifa, Lil’ Wayne, and Busta Rhymes. These artist are wild cards in music and try to be a wildcard.”

Finesse has shows booked for Virginia-based blog MoBoombox this summer and will also perform in New Jersey and New York.

Keep an eye out on RVA Mag for upcoming releases and a review for Finesse’s EP, Doug.
