If you’re the type that doesn’t take trap-rap too seriously you may want to check out Father, an up and coming rapper from Atlanta who’s playing at The Broadberry this Thursday April 24th.

If his name doesn’t ring a bell maybe Father’s viral hit “Look at Wrist” will.

Frequent ILOVEMAKKONEN collaborator Father carries a style that’s ironic, sometimes strange and oftentimes funny. Father isn’t too far from rap acts like Lil’ B or Riff Raff, although he never reaches their level of outrageous flamboyance.

Father’s verses and beats are much more understated than his “based” contemporaries, but the rapper still manages to take advantage of the whole, “so bad its good” appeal.

I mean just look at the name of his self-run label, AwfulRecords.

If his Youtube videos are any indication of his live show, it should be nothing short of entertaining.

Plus there will be plenty of laid back trap-flavored beats to cook up a nice dance to. Don’t know any Father songs? No problem, how can you not sing along to a chorus as simple as, “Wrist wrist wrist wrist wrist wrist.” And behind the aggressively lazy flow are some pretty clever verses like; “Lean and sprite / We’re all lost / Jeans and tights / Are all off / black as fuck / We’re all goths / Protect your bitch at all cost.”

In a recent interview with Complex, Father says; “I’m a weird nigga, it’s how it comes out really.”

He continues on to talk about his influences and eventually cartoons? “I like different looking shit. I grew up on ’90s cartoons, like Rocko’s Modern Life […] cartoons like Adventure Time, Adult Swim got shit on lock right now. Have you seen Rick & Morty? Rick & Morty is the greatest cartoon currently out.”

If you’re looking for some satirical fun, you can turn up this Thursday with Father at The Broadberry.
