Never let it be said that Australian heavy-rock trio Wolfmother don’t keep fans on their toes.

Never let it be said that Australian heavy-rock trio Wolfmother don’t keep fans on their toes. After two albums of blazing 70s-style proto-metal featuring two completely different lineups backing frontman Andrew Stockdale, Wolfmother supposedly dissolved in early 2013, with the planned third Wolfmother album showing up as a Stockdale solo album in April of that year. By July, though, the band was inexplicably back together–an even stranger turn of events in light of Stockdale’s solo album featuring everyone from the final Wolfmother lineup. And for a band that hasn’t been all that prolific, it was even more surprising to see the sudden appearance of Wolfmother’s third album, New Crown, last month–on Bandcamp. Who knows what motivated the sudden release, or why the band is no longer backed by their former label, Modular/Universal, but the important part is that Wolfmother is still more than capable of producing memorable psychedelic proto-metal epics. See for yourself by streaming the whole thing below:

Since the reconstituted group is clearly still at the top of their game, we can’t help but encourage you to go check them out in the live environment as well. They’re spending the month of May on a North American tour, and Tuesday, May 20 will see the group arrive at DC’s Lincoln Theatre for a night of psych-metal awesomeness. Make sure you’re there!

The Vinyl Crypt of Scott’s Addition: Wax Moon’s Strange Magic

Off of Broad Street, deep in Scott’s Addition between warehouses and alleyways, is a black hole in the wall filled with music, vintage VHS, and (perhaps most importantly) Richmond’s preeminent collection of horror-themed pinball machines. I came to Wax Moon on a cool...
