Skating and Gifting At Stony Point Fashion Park

by | Dec 19, 2022 | RICHMOND NEWS

Stony Point Fashion Park is not a place where you can ride hats, in the way you ride log flumes at water parks. They have no rides themed after high heels, belt buckles, or blue jeans. There’s not even a zipper.

Though this may come as a blow to some, the rest of us can take comfort in the fact that it is a shopping mall. The perfect place to pick up a few “I thought of you” gifts in the last week before Christmas. Or, the perfect place to pick up the gift that says “I had to think about you.”

But if your heart is set on amusement-park fun, take heart — until January 2, you can go ice skating in the courtyard at Stony Point! The romantic in me is thinking that you could bring a date to Cinebistro and do some ice skating afterwards. The pragmatist in me is thinking doing Cinebistro around 5 is the move, so it’s dark when you are ice-skating and the Christmas lights can set the mood for a romantic and memorable holiday outing.

If your date isn’t cute enough, Stony Point is having a pet photo contest for the Pawlidays! Until December 24, send them a picture of your dog and it could become a featured photo at Stony Point! As a dog owner myself, I understand the futility in trying to find a dog that is cuter than mine, but appreciate the trouble others will go through to ignore this reality.

Why is my dog cuter than yours? I got him at Stony Point! Psych, I got him at the SPCA. There are many dogs at shelters this holiday season, and if you adopt a dog before December 24, you can take a picture of your lovely pupperino and enter it into the contest on the Stony Point website. Or, if you already have a little furry friend that you love to puddles, submit them too! Winner gets a gift basket from Fido Park Avenue Dog Boutique. Above is a photo of my dog Miles as a prime example of a dog photo.

If neither your date nor your dog is cute enough, you can bring your kid to Stony Point for an early New Years Eve celebration called ‘Noon Year’s Eve’! The event starts at 11 am on December 31, and children will be given bubble wands to blow bubbles when the clock strikes 12pm. With games, music, and bubbles at Triangle Park, this is THE motor-skill-development event of 2022.

As always, Stony Point has something for everybody. Ignore its lack of clothing-themed amusement rides and give it a chance to really wow you this holiday season. You spent all year being somebody else’s elf — come grab some toys for those on your list!

Review | Get In My Boca! What’s Happening at the Triangle?

Every time I go to the Aldi on Arthur Ashe at Broad St., En Su Boca tries to seduce me with its tequila and tacos perfume. It doesn’t work all the time, but I feel the pull when I’m browsing the nonsense in Aldi’s middle aisle. I once bought sweatpants there. I’m not...
