Richmond Wrestling Legend, Progressive Liberal Featured on Daily Show Last Night

by | Mar 2, 2018 | COMMUNITY

Richmond is home to one of Virginia’s greatest living legends, The Progressive Liberal Daniel Richards. His fame is storied, his prowess unmatched, and by now, if you don’t know him by reputation, it’s safe to assume you’ve been living as an indigent aesthetic at a monastery in India, frozen in carbonite on Tatooine, or hiding out in an underwater lair in the Mariana Trench. Known eponymously as Progressive Liberal, the 6′ 4″ 220-pound defender of liberal virtues has taken the wrestling world by storm with his willingness to carry the progressive battle standard deep into Appalachia right into the heart of Trump country.

With his ever-expanding popularity widening and a portfolio of media credentials which include VICE, Rolling Stone, Washington Post, Playboy, and naturally RVA Mag, he has now reached another zenith of fame with an appearance on the  The Daily Show.

During the segment, Progressive Liberal pulls no proverbial punches. When asked by correspondent Ronny Chieng, “How hard is it to pretend to have these liberal values,” Progressive Liberal deadpanned, “I’m not pretending.” Hero. But there were some other takeaways from last night’s segment, things which speak to the ongoing break down in political civility and decorum. At one point Chieng observed, “What you are saying [is] the level of political discourse in wrestling is actually higher than in politics,” to which the Progressive Liberal said simply, “Oh, yeah.” No truer words have ever been spoken in 2018.

RVA Mag caught up with Progressive Liberal to get his take on the segment. When asked about being on the Daily Show and his growing popularity he casually said, “If I could change one thing about the Daily Show segment, it would be that they aired the promo I cut on Donald Trump. There’s no faker tough guy than Trump.” He went on to say, “And if I was allowed, I would hit him with my Liberal Agenda and he would be liberated!” Indeed, Progressive Liberal’s finishing move is the devastating Liberal Agenda – a move that all at once terrifies conservatives and titillates liberals.

For now though, Richmond’s favorite son will continue to mainstream his national agenda of political re-education and fight for progressive values in an age of runaway conservatism. “The big thing for me now is to continue to ride this wave and capitalize on new opportunities,” said Progressive Liberal when asked about what’s next. “I’ve been so fortunate to work with some of the best in news and entertainment over the last eight months, [but] the Daily Show may have been the best I’ve worked with.”

To keep up with the Progressive Liberal’s national dominance, follow him on Facebook and Twitter.

The Light That Never Went Out

There is a spotlight still mounted in the rafters of 528 N. 2nd Street. It has been there since 1914. It has outlasted segregation, fire, the highway that cut Jackson Ward in two, and decades of silence. On the nights when the Hippodrome Theater fills up, that light...
