Sierra Ferrell took over Brown’s Island earlier this week, transforming Richmond’s riverfront into fantasy. Surrounded by oversized mushrooms, flowers, and a stage dressed like an Appalachian fever dream, Ferrell delivered a set that moved easily from honky-tonk stomp to hushed ballad. H
The show drew one of the largest audiences of the Brown’s Island summer season, with fans shoulder-to-shoulder and lining the banks of the James. Ferrell leaned into songs from Long Time Coming while mixing in newer material, proving why she’s become one of Americana’s most magnetic performers.
Nikki Lane opened the night with her signature blend of outlaw country grit and rock swagger. Hitting the stage just as the sun dropped behind the skyline, Lane set the tone with a high-energy set that reminded Richmond why she’s carved such a distinct place in the modern country scene.

Since 2005, the magazine has provided grassroots coverage of the city’s artists, musicians, and communities, documenting the culture that defines Richmond beyond the headlines.
