Barack Obama, The Freshest Freshman.

by | May 28, 2009 | PHOTOGRAPHY, POLITICS

It piques my curiosity to see college photographs of George W. Bush. In fact, considering the years of the previous oppressive “regime,” it wouldn’t be difficult to make him appear benevolent. Photographer Lisa Jack, however, has managed to capture a very human side of our former president.

These photographs were taken during Mr. Obama’s freshman years at Occidental College, portraying a young Barack wearing a wide-brimmed Panama hat and casually smoking a cigarette. With an air of confidence, he effortlessly embraces his youthful self.

Today marks the opening of an exhibition at M+B Gallery in West Hollywood, featuring 21 out of the 36 photos from this series. Unfortunately, being located in Virginia, I won’t be able to attend, but I wanted to share this interesting tidbit with those who may be in proximity to the gallery. For those unable to attend, I have included some samples from the series in this post.
