All high school students with a passion for writing looking to hone and refine their skills, now have the opportunity to learn from one of the greatest…Edgar Allan Poe.
Well..not actually because the great poet is obviously no longer with us, but the museum is hosting a week-long conference for high school students to learn from experienced writers and get better at their craft.
The Edgar Allan Poe Museum recently announced its accepting applications for its 2016 Young Writers’ Conference, which will be held June 19-23. The five-day conference is a chance for young writers to develop their skills through lectures, workshops, field trips centered around Poe and much more.
The lectures will focus on different forms of writing each day. Students will learn techniques from different authors across many genres including poetry, fiction, journalism, and non-fiction.
During the workshops, the young writers will read from their work, receive critique, instruction and support from their workshop leader and peers; and engage in exercises and writing prompts that will serve to develop their skills.
At the end of the conference, each student will read the work they’ve produced throughout the week.
Poe Museum’s Young Writers’ Conference will be held at Linden Row Inn at 100 E. Franklin St where students will stay throughout the conference.
Applications must be submitted by April 15. The cost for the conference is $750 per participant.
