Burger Bach “Gives Bach”: Burger Of The Month Benefits Christchurch Victims

Jayla McNeill | April 25, 2019

Topics: Bourbon Bacon Burger, Burger Bach, Burger of the Month, Christchurch, New Zealand, Victim Support Manaaki Tangata

Burger Bach may have started here in Richmond, but the local gastropub has always had a strong connection to New Zealand, from its name (pronounced “burger batch”), which comes from a New Zealand slang term for a beach house, to its choice to serve only grass-fed beef, venison, and lamb imported from New Zealand.

Now they are further emphasizing that connection with April’s Burger Of The Month, the proceeds from which will benefit the victims of the racist attack against the Christchurch mosques in New Zealand.

Every month, Burger Bach features a specialty burger not normally on the menu, and donates a portion of the proceeds from the burger to a different community-based organization.

For the month of April, Burger Bach will be donating $1 for every specialty burger they sell at their Midlothian, Short Pump, Charlottesville, and Durham locations to help the victims and families of Christchurch shootings in New Zealand.

Last month a lone gunman attacked two mosques in the city of Christchurch, New Zealand. Fifty people were killed, and fifty more were injured during the terrorist attack.

One hundred percent of the proceeds Burger Bach makes from this month’s fundraiser will go towards support services to help those affected by the attack.

The specialty burger that will be going toward the fundraiser this month is the Bourbon Bacon Burger, which was Burger Bach’s most popular Burger of the Month in 2018. It starts with pasture-raised Black Angus New Zealand beef, then adds goat cheese, uncured bacon, bourbon bacon jam, and garlic aioli.

Burger Bach has partnered with Victim Support Manaaki Tangata for the fundraiser.

Victim Support Manaaki Tangata is a New Zealand based organization that provides “24 -hour, seven day a week access to an integrated, personalized, professional support service to all victims of crime and trauma” and does advocacy work “for the rights and interests of these victims.”

In addition, the organization provides free support services to help “victims find strength, hope and safety in the face of grief and trauma.” Burger Bach will also be accepting donations for Victim Support Manaaki Tangata throughout the month of April. If you are interested in donating you can stop by a Burger Bach location or email [email protected]

With a week remaining in April, there’s still time to take part in this fundraiser. Stop by Burger Bach before next Wednesday, order yourself a Bourbon Bacon Burger, and “give bach.”
