Free Kutmah: Background, Detention, Petition

by | May 19, 2010 | POLITICS

Kutmah is a deejay. He spins dub. He was born of Scottish and Egyptian ancestry, moved to the United States when he was twelve, and has been repeatedly denied a green card. Two weeks ago, he was arrested in his home in Los Angeles, was interrogated, and is now in a detention center in New Mexico. There’s more info and a petition HERE. If that’s too many links for you, the Facebook Page has all of them in one place.

It’s not just dub deejays with a good following and myspace pages that are getting disappeared in the middle of the night in the United States.

It’s not just dub deejays with a good following and myspace pages that are getting disappeared in the middle of the night in the United States. I’m not trying to deride his battle- I cannot imagine what he’s going through- but there is a larger issue at play here. Immigration is a complicated issue, for sure, but I’m of the opinion that anyone who wants to work and pay taxes should be given the opportunity to be an American, and once they’ve been given that right, they might want to start complaining about paying taxes (but that’s a story for a different day). In this case, we have a hard working contributor to the arts, charities, and culture of America that is heading towards deportation, and it just seems wrong.
