Special And Sweet: Lucy Dacus Comes Home To Brown’s Island

by | Aug 4, 2022 | MUSIC

No stranger to Richmond, the beautifully talented singer Lucy Dacus put on the most beautiful and dreamy show last Thursday night on Brown’s Island. The stormy skies of the afternoon cleared up to a gorgeous magenta sunset in time for Samia to open the show, followed by Courtney Barnett. The evening was closed out wonderfully by Lucy Dacus.

Nashville-based artist Samia opened with so much eye catching energy. She and her band played selections from recent releases including their 2020 album, The Baby, as well as some more recent singles beloved by fans. As golden hour approached the island, Samia’s incredibly ethereal performance instantly drew everyone in the venue closer to the stage. Songs like, “Pool,” “Triptych,” and “Big Wheel” rang beautifully through the city as they performed. Samia is a must-see artist; she and her band give every show their all.

Following Samia was co-headliner Courtney Barnett, an Australian singer-songwriter who gave a smashing performance with her band. Fans waited in line all afternoon to get the best barricade spot and their faces completely lit up when she came onto the stage and proceeded to play several selections from her most recent album, Things Take Time, Take Time. The sun was setting, the stage lights were getting brighter, and Courtney Barnett had everyone in the venue dancing their hearts out on this beautifully special evening. This band is so incredible to listen to and to watch. See them on their next tour!

Lastly and most highly anticipated, Richmond-born artist Lucy Dacus played a tear-jerking, dance-filled, stunning set. The precious smiles of her fans were a delight, and hearing their loud voices singing along with Dacus’s was so sweet to hear. She played favorites from her last album, Home Video — songs like “Hot & Heavy,” “Brando,” “Kissing Lessons,” and so many more. The Richmond City skyline overlooking the warm pink-lit stage was the setting for the experience of a lifetime. Dacus’s magnetic energy, precious smile, and radiant voice echoed through the incredible crowd of people — so many Richmond music lovers stretching across the entire island, all there to support Lucy in her hometown return. She is an artist you have to see live! If you didn’t make it, you missed out.
