Pop rock group Griff’s Room Band released a new track entitled “Wasted Time” June 8 on their SoundCloud and website.

This is the first new music from the Williamsburg natives since the release of their 2014 EP Shut the Case.

“Wasted Time” is very catchy. Most of the group’s work has been very fiddle heavy, but this track is definitely more poppy and sort of a little more jam-band like than the band’s previous folksy, acoustic work.

David Adley, vocalist/violinist of GRB, said the band has decided to change up their sound a bit.

“We mostly play on electric guitars now, and we’ve added bass and drums as well,” he said. “We definitely want to move the band’s sound in a more pop-oriented direction, but it’s tough to shake the indie-folk brand with {me} playing the violin.”

Liam Anastasia-Murphy, GRB’s guitarist came up with the idea to plug the violin into a tube amp for this track.

“It kind of rides the line between violin and electric guitar,” Adley said. “In fact, one friend of ours commented on how much he liked the guitar solo in the song, but that’s actually the violin being run through a distortion pedal.”

GRB recorded the new track during an eight-hour session at Track Meet Recording Studio & Photography Space in Richmond this past February after winning a battle of the bands at The Broadberry last year.

Adley said Wasted Time is a song about a date guitarist Michael Cammarata went on with a girl at the Tobacco Company.

“As you can surmise from the title, it was a one and done kind of deal,” he said. “Michael had the frame of the song and most of the lyrics, but we really fleshed it out as a group the first time we jammed on it.”

Adley, Anastasia-Murphy and Cammarata founded GRB in December 2011 after meeting at William and Mary and started playing on the streets of Williamsburg in 2012. The group amped up to actual gigs in 2014 and have been heavily on the Richmond scene ever since.

They added bass player Clayton Perry, who also went to William and Mary, when they recorded their EP Shut The Case.

The group plans to release another single entitled “Bad News” later this month, but no concrete plans for an album just yet according to Cammarata.

“We definitely have enough material for a full length album, but we’re not sure when we are going to lay it down just yet. We’re tentatively thinking about recording this winter,” Cammarata said.

Griff’s Room Band will play Strange Matter on June 18 and Capital Ale House June 24.
