Lovers of craft beer rejoice.

Lovers of craft beer rejoice. The staff here at RVA Mag has decided to put together a weekly column, “RVA On Tap,” a rundown of all events, festivals, new beer releases, and other craft-beer related news and happenings going on in the city for you to enjoy.

Every Wednesday, the column will feature new information on what local breweries are up to for the upcoming weekend, link back to recent beer-related stories we’ve covered, and perhaps pictures of what you missed the previous week and a sneak peek of what’s to come.

We hope as the weeks go by the list will grow with submissions from you – e-mail us, amy@rvamag.com – as well as the area breweries. Cheers!

I think the most exciting news going on this weekend is Strangeways Brewing’s second anniversary party. The Dabney Road brewery kicks off festivities tomorrow and will party all weekend with a Brews and Burlesque show on Friday, the main event Saturday, with food from ZZQ, and Campus Cookies, a brewery documentary and Gose Release, and a beer and waffles brunch on Sunday.

Check out our full story on that event here.

Arghh mateys! Lickinghole Creek Craft Brewery in Goochland is hosting its annual Pirate Party on Saturday with a Batchelors Delight beer release, a Rum Barrel Aged Belgian-Style Quadrupel Ale. Dress up as the one and only Jack Sparrow or your other favorite pirate because there will be a costume contest! Live music from Blue Catz and Vexine and food trucks. The brewery will also tap a special pin of Batchelors Delight called El Presidente’s Delight.

Start stretching out those legs and practicing your downward dog pose. Ashland-brewery Center of the Universe will host “Pints and Poses,” a collaboration of beer and yoga with Latitude Yoga Co. on Saturday from 12-1 pm. Cost is $12. After you learn some new ways to contort your body, stick round for some brews. Namaste.

Hardywood Park Craft Brewery will throw down Thursday with their usual food truck court. Sixteen food trucks will be serving up everything from tacos, to ice cream, to Cajun food. The brewery will also host a few bands on Friday including Lobo Marino, Mountain Holler, and Dave Atkins. 5:30-9 pm. Free.

Not a craft beer blurb, but worthy of note, Glen Allen’s James River Cellars Winery’s third annual Smoke and Vine Festival is this Sat. July 11, from 4-10 p.m. Hey, not beer, but cigars and wine aren’t too shabby either! http://www.smokeandvinefestival.com/

Capital Ale House Downtown Music Hall will introduce “Folk Fridays” on Friday, a monthly series of artists, folk musicians, and craft beer.

Audrey Finney, Capital Ale’s Public Relations and Music Hall Manager said she started planning and getting in contact with the local artists and musicians for the new series last month.

“We have a really great space and I didn’t think it was being used in all the ways that it could,” she said. “I saw the opportunity to bring in local artists and have their art displayed on our walls.”

Check out our full story on it here.

Next week, we will have all info for you and a cool new logo for the column so be on the look out for that!

Review | Get In My Boca! What’s Happening at the Triangle?

Every time I go to the Aldi on Arthur Ashe at Broad St., En Su Boca tries to seduce me with its tequila and tacos perfume. It doesn’t work all the time, but I feel the pull when I’m browsing the nonsense in Aldi’s middle aisle. I once bought sweatpants there. I’m not...

What This Year Really Looked Like for Virginia Farmers

2025 has been a tough year for farming across the country, and from the outside looking in, it’s hard to tell what’s actually happening versus what’s being spun. So instead of guessing about beef prices or egg shortages, it made sense to ask someone dealing with these...
