What’s happening craft beer lovers of RVA?! Welcome to this week’s “Tapped,” RVA Magazine’s go to weekly beer column.

We’ve brewed up quite a bit of news so all you beer thirsty folks can be in the know about recent news and actually have something fun to do with your weekend other than sitting on the couch stuffing your face with Doritos and binging on Netflix.

We are gearing up for Fall and so are the breweries! So you know what that means! Pumpkin and other autumn-inspired beers so hold on to your mugs because we’re ready to tap this thing!

This round and into October will be all about Oktoberfest. We’ve also got some ice cold beer releases and a big festival for you to guzzle as well!

Anyway, on to this week’s news! Hold out your cups and get ready for the good stuff!

The biggest news is the Know Good Beer and Music Festival coming to Brown’s Island this Saturday. Attendees can sample 60 craft beers from local, regional and national breweries, get some grub and dance to the Those Darlins, blank and Richmond’s own The Sleepwalkers! We have a ton of Oktoberfest parties lined up for you for the rest of this month and next month. Yes, Richmond loves the German celebration that much we stretch it out. But German beer, brats, sauerkraut, lederhosen and Polka music? I can’t get enough.

St. Benedict’s annual Oktoberfest party kicks off Friday Sept. 18 and runs through the weekend. Expect the usual German fare, music, and of course German beer.

The Richmond Kickers are hosting their own Oktoberfest party tonight with a Brats & Beets Fest. Check out our story on it here. ‘

The Answer Brewpub is hosting a Summer Meets Fall party with a pumpkin tap takeover. And they’re selling kites too! I love it. Check out the fall brews they’ll have: Saucony Creek Brewing Maple Mistress, The Bruery Autumn Maple,Ballast Point Pumpkin Down, AleWerks Pumpkin Ale, Schlafly Pumpkin Ale, Brothers Brewing 8 Bells, Southern Tier Warlock, Southern Tier Pumpking, HS Great’er Pumpkin, Unita Oaked Jack, Ardent Sweet Potato Sage and Maui Coconut.

On Friday, Triple Crossing is savoring the last few days of summer with the release of Clip in Clip Out, a tart wheat ale. The brew is a classic European tart session wheat beer and soured with lactobacillus from RVA Yeast Lab and fermented with 6lbs of raspberry puree. YUM!

Isley Brewing will release Summit Avenue 1, a Cranberry Belgian Sour and Strawberry Belgian Sour in bottles on Saturday. On Sunday, its Grab a Growler for this brewery, the brewery will hold a fundraiser for the Capital Area Rescue Effort (C.A.R.E.) They will have dogs on site for adoption CARE fundraiser, doggie swimming pools and prizes!

Cruise on out to Strangeways Brewing for their Local Cruise for Local Brews featuring music from Cha Cha’s Cadillac on Sun.Sept 20 at Strangeways. Its their last one for the year. Hot rods and rat rods from the Bloody Knuckle Road Zombies CC will be there and the best part, it benefits pinups for pitbulls! 12- 6 pm.

The brewery is also jumping on the yoga/brew trend! This Monday get your stretch on with their Ale-n-Asana yoga workshops. This series will run once-a-month starting in September and will culminate with a special December. $10.

This Saturday, Blue Bee Cider will bring back its much-loved mulberry-infused cider, Fanfare. There will be live music and food to celebrate the UCI Road Bike World Championships and there will be cornhole, a shaded outdoor seating, and sidewalk chalk to draw murals that memorialize the day. In the spirit of bike races, if you ride your bike to the cidery, you get a 10% discount on everything that you buy!

Midnight Brewery created its own special brw for this year’s State Fair of Virginia, calld “Virginia Midway,” The brewery is is hosting a kick-off event on Thursday, Sept. 17th.

Starr Hill Sweet 16 celebration continues! THis Friday the brewery will have its Live Sessions Shakedown Imperial Chocolate Cherry Stout. The series is aged in Smooth Ambler bourbon barrels since 2014 and they’re releasing this small batch on draft first.

Saturday head to Ardent Craft Ales because they are going IPA crazy with their IPA ALLLL Day event. Its the third installment and will feature seven IPAs plus a bonus release of our IPA 14.3! Tasters and full pours will be available, Check out the beers at the link above.

Richmond breweries will walk in honor of Hardin Brotherton Pumphrey brother of Lisa Brotherton Pumphrey of Lickinghole Creek Craft Brewery by participating in the Richmond chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s “Out of the Darkness” walk at Deep Run Park Saturday September 19 starting at 8 am.
