What’s happening craft beer lovers of RVA?! Welcome to this week’s “Tapped,” RVA Magazine’s go to weekly beer column.

We’ve brewed up quite a bit of news so all you beer thirsty folks can be in the know about recent news and actually have something fun to do with your weekend other than sitting on the couch stuffing your face with Doritos and binging on Netflix.

The holidays are almost upon us are many of the local breweries are getting into the spirit with gingerbread, christmas cookie, and other holiday-insipred brews! So whether you’ve been naughty or nice there’s something for everyone in this round on tapped! But first check out what you missed last week:

Hardywood released one of bests that the whole town goes crazy over, the Bourbon Gingerbread Stout.

And Strangeways released two delicious imperial stouts: Ape Armageddon Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout and Ape Armageddon Mexican Tequila Barrel Aged Imperial Stout, both a whopping 11% ABV. If you didn’t try these out, I suggest you head down to the Dabney Road brewery and try them out!

If you missed our brew news yesterday, let me fill you because its pretty big! Charlottesville-based brewery Three-Notch’d Brewing announced plans to open a location in Richmond by next year. They will have a 4,000 square foot space in Scotts Addition with 12 tap lines and the brewery is looking to collaborate with other breweries, restaurants and home brewers. Lickinghole Creek is releasing its Citra Fresh IPA on Sat. Dec. 12. The brewery added nearly a pound and a half of Citra hops per barrel, to get the most flavor and aroma from the hop so its fresh and citrusy!

Strangeways Brewing is coming out with ANOTHER double beer release for you this Saturday Dec. 12. The brewery will release an Ape Armageddon Kentucky Rye Whiskey Barrel Aged Imperial Stout and Ape Armageddon Caribbean Rum Barrel Aged Imperial Stout. 11% ABV. Available on draft and 750ml bottles.

Getting into the holiday spirit, Hardywood is holding a Food Drive tonight and for the month of December they are taking $1 off a $10 tasting room purchase in support of FeedMore.Try their brand new release, Give Bock while you’re there, an Autumn German-style bock.

This Saturday, Hardywood will release its Christmas Morning brew. Christmas Morning contains locally roasted Brazilian and Sumatran coffee beans from Black Hand Coffee Company. Hints of sweet honey and oven baked gingerbread greet the comforting nuances of freshly brewed morning coffee in this imperial milk stout. 9.2% abv

If you’re looking for a beer fix before our next roundup, head to Isley Brewing next Tues. Dec. 15. They are releasing a “Stay Mallow” Brown Ale. Its brewed with toasted marshmallows. YUM!!

Garden Grove Brewing has cooked up an awesome looking brew in collaboration with Tricycle Gardens. The two will debut Chili & The Chocolate Factory on Fri. Dec. 11 at noon at the brewery. The chocolate chili porter will be available throughout the weekend and they will hold a special Four Season Farmstand in the brewery on Sunday the 13th, frm 2 to 5 pm. 10% of sales will support Tricycle Gardens.

Garden Grove is also hosting a beer dinner with the chefs from Dutch & Co. Monday Dec. 14. Five courses of pub-inspired cuisine will be matched with five artisan brews. $38. Register here.

Blue Bee Cider will release its first ever single varietal cider, made with 100% Hewes Crab cider apples Sat. Dec 12. Its perfect weather for some crisp golden cider!!

Center of the Universe will release its Orange is the New Stout this Sat. Dec. 12. Its an imperial chocolate porter brewed with oranges and sea salt. This is one I may have to stop my Netflix binge watching and bust out of my house and go try this tasty brew. Its a collab with O’Connor Brewing and 10.5%! Hope you can handle it!

Ardent Craft Ales is hosting a Beer craft Market this Sat. Dec 12. at 1 pm. It will be full of locally made, beer-centric goods including growlers, glassware, bottle carriers, openers, beer art, and everything else you could possibly think of! And the brewery will debut its Rum Barrel Dark Rye!
