What’s happening craft beer lovers of RVA?! Welcome to this week’s “Tapped,” RVA Magazine’s go to weekly craft beer column where you can find all your craft beer-related events, releases, festivals and all the booze news your little hearts desire.
Our cup is overflowing with news this week, but first head over here to check out what you missed last week.
We are loving this weather! The sunshine makes me want to be out having a beer on a patio in the sunshine right now, but my duty is to bring you the beer news and I’m happy to do it! So for those lucky ones not at work right now, have a beer for me and for those still staring at a computer screen in your cubicle we’ll just have to wait until the weekend to enjoy one of the wonderful events below.
So hold on to your mugs because we’re getting ready to tap thing thing!
Lickinghole Creek will release its Coconut Quad this Saturday March 12. Tis Coconut Belgian-Style Quadrupel Ale clocks in a whopping 11.2%. 12 to 7 pm. One case limit per customer. No tickets this time!

Triple Crossing will announce the results of the homebrewers competition this Saturday at 1 pm.

Isley Brewing has new hours! Starting this Saturay, the Scott’s Addition brewery will be open from 12pm – 12am on Saturdays. They are also bringing back their release from last week because you loved it so much! The brewery will have Spiced Apple Mos Eisley Brown Ale available on Friday from 4 to 10 pm.

As part of Hardywood’s Brewer and Artist series, the brewery will release Spirited Braid, a citrusy saison brewed with raw organic wheat. Sara Gossett is the artist this weekend who works primarily with watercolor. Live music starts at 5 pm.

This Saturday, Strangeways will release its Sugar Shack Samoa Porter. The collaboration brew tastes of caramel, toasted coconut and dark chocolate. Yum!

Garden Grove Brewing in Carytown has triple beer release for us this weekend!! The brewery will release HIBISCUS HARLEQUIN, an amber Saison, fermented with sweet oranges and hibiscus flowers.
SOUTHERN SESSION, a sessionable IPA made entirely from New Zealand And Australian Hops. Fruity and Intensely Bitter. A Chocolate Vanilla Stout will be the third release, It’s rich, silky, & heady crafted with massive amounts of chocolate and vanilla bean. The stout is fermented in oak barrels and aged on Madagascar Vanilla Bean. So plenty of options there so go try some out!
The brewery will also host a beer dinner March 21 with Phillip Denny, the chef over at new restaurant Castanea. Attendees will dine on a five course meal paired with their tasty brews. Tickets are $38 plus tax & tip these usually go fast so get yours while you can. You can grab yours here.
As we all now know, Stone Brewing has opened in Richmond. It’s not brewing its own beers just yet, but they do have plenty of it for sale in their taproom! On tap this week is: tone Xocoveza for the Holidays & the New Year, 20th Anniversary Encore Series: Stone 12th Anniversary Bitter Chocolate Oatmeal Stout and 2015 Stone Imperial Russian Stout.

Mekong won USA Today’s Best Beer Bar! They’ve won so many awards already for their tasty brews its only right for them to keep racking them up. Go over there and grab yourself a cold one and help them celebrate.
The Answer Brewpub has a St. Patrick’s Day celebration going on next Thursday March 17th. From 12 to midnight they will be trading out the green beer and tapping Terrapin Beer Co.’s Single Origin Coffee Stouts. They will have four of their beers as a flight: Hawaiian Kona, Guatemalan Huehuetenango, Ethiopa Hambela and Sumatra Wahana Natural.
