For those of us still in (or visiting) the city this holiday season we can often struggle for a way to reconnect with the town we love so much. Luckily, one of RVA’s most prolific singer songwriters, Prabir Mehta, is throwing a Christmas Eve party to solve that problem.

Mehta (Prabir and the Substitutes), along with the eclectic Patrick Bates, plan to open the doors of The Camel again this year to offer a free, music fueled holiday party for all those looking to reunite with old friends.

This is the next in a long series of holiday parties thrown by Mehta; they started with the Ghosts of Pop series at Gallery 5 some time ago and switched to The Camel last year.

“It’s good to spread some holiday cheer around our RVA music fam,” said Mehta. “I don’t fall into the religious aspect of Christmas… it’s not even supposed to be in the middle of December anyway, but since we’re celebrating, I might as well find my own purpose: to spread the love of music to all my friends.”

Acts include a myriad of RVA talent – Avers’ Alex Spalding. Pete Curry (Crystal Pistol records), Lindsey Spurrier (Hot Dolphin), Keli Strawbridge (Kings, Big Pay Back), Russell Lacy (Moonwalker studios) and a number of other surprises that are sure to get you in the spirit of the season.

And just in case you lacked any holiday cheer, Mehta has crafted a brand new Christmas song that aims to encompass all of Richmond, “Christmas time in Jackson Ward”:

Mehta said this city is too full of talent not to celebrate, and they keep the entry for the event free to allow those who blew their pay check on others to still have a good time.

“We don’t want to make a buck off the door and we just want people to get warm and groovy,” he said. The event is also a canned food drive so head on out to the Camel Christmas Eve and may your season be merry!
