That’s right, well-beloved Florida stoner band Torche returns once again to Richmond, and you can be on hand to watch the whole thing go down. Torche are still touring in support of last year’s Songs For Singles EP, which expands on the melodic side they showed off on their previous full-length, 2008’s Meanderthal, while also getting creative with song structures in previously unheard ways–perhaps due to writing the album as a more stripped-down trio. They have finally replaced departed second guitarist Juan Montoya, though, and this will be there first time in Richmond with their new guitarist, Andrew Elstner. Surely that’ll be worth checking out. But really, Torche are always worth checking out–especially considering the possibility that new material, recently written for an upcoming 2011 LP, will get its live debut.
The other bands on the bill should be equally worth your time; Torche’s tourmates Post-Teens feature members of Asshole Parade, Dead Friends, and Torche, who switch things up from what you’d usually expect by playing Buzzcocks-style melodic punk rock. The Catalyst’s noisy dual-drummer stoner-core have made them local faves. They’re playing their first show since October, and word has it that they’ve spent their time away writing a whole new set of songs, many of which will be played for the first time on Friday. Finally, Richmond’s emotionally-driven post-hardcore heroes Worn In Red are fresh off a European tour and should therefore be in fine form. The whole show promises to be great, and you don’t wanna miss it.
