NEXT WEEK: Young Widows At Strange Matter

by | Apr 29, 2011 | MUSIC

Young Widows really put the “power” in the phrase power trio. This Louisville post-hardcore three-piece have been laying down crushing midtempo groove monsters for the past five years, and they only keep getting better. Their new album, In And Out Of Youth And Lightness, was just released last month, and now their tour for that album brings them to Richmond’s Strange Matter. The new album, their second on post-rock label Temporary Residence, features a more expansive production style than their earlier work, opening up wide sonic landscapes within their sound and giving many of its songs more of a darkly ominous feel than the straight-up brutality of earlier works. However, their music is still both complex and extremely powerful. In a live setting, it’s only going to be more intense, so prepare yourself for overpowering volume and devastation. Which is to say: bring your earplugs.

WHAT: Young Widows descend upon Strange Matter!
WHO: Young Widows, My Disco, Lights East
WHERE: Strange Matter (929 W. Grace St.)
WHEN: Thursday May 5, 10 PM
ADMISSION: $8 in advance, $10 at the door

Check out the (extremely bloody) video for Young Widows’ new single, “Future Heart,” from In And Out Of Youth And Lightness, after the jump!
