It’s not every day in Richmond that you have so many good things going on in one night… well, yeah it is, but it’s not every day that I make the effort to be at more than one of those goings-on in the same night. Last Saturday night was host to both Marshe Wyche of Rumors Boutique’s own 4th HOUSE OF THE ZODIAC birthday party at Cellar Door and DJ DODDIE’s (of Audio Ammo) dance night at Bellytimber Tavern.

To tell the truth, Saturday night was the first time I’d ever made a stop by Cellar Door, a small restaurant/bar/venue on Monument at Stuart Circle, but I ended up loving the place. The name sounds like a neat little title for a venue, but it’s also completely literal. You have to walk down a flight of stairs under the apartments at Stuart Circle to get inside. Some people might complain about claustrophobia, but when you think about the soundproofing liberties that come with being under the fucking ground, you start to see the logic at work there.

With that in mind, DJ DRTYFNGR and friends had no problem pumping up the music to the point where the only remaining form of feasible social communication was dancing. Even so, I decided it would be a good idea to shout myself hoarse trying to talk with my good friend Brian McDaniel.

You might know this man by his popular local fashion blog, DIRTY RICHMOND, but Brian and I go back to a time when no one knew about either of our blogs. We were both shooting the Richmond runway and fashion show scene together over a year ago, and since then we’ve watched each other’s projects grow into involved, recognizable entities in our respective scenes. We took some time to catch each other up on what we’ve been working on, and I’m sure it won’t be long before we together to pick each other’s blogging brains.

Oh, and there was a dance party going on, by the way.

I hate it when I’m a second too late.

As much fun as I was having, it was getting late and I had to hop over to Bellytimber to catch the end of DJ Doddie’s infamous dance night.

I’m not kidding when I say ‘infamous’. When I walked in I noticed the dance floor was already so packed that girls were getting up on tables and seats just to have enough room for themselves to get down. Who doesn’t love it when that happens?

One thing I always love about Doddie’s parties is that he brings out so many different scenes from Richmond and his hometown Virginia Beach. Especially since I’ve been traveling so much recently, it’s always great to see the beachside homies. Oh, and thanks Myles.

I had the pleasure of running into RVAmag photographer Ian Graham. It’s pretty rare to see him not behind a camera—he’s been so busy shooting just about every picture you see in the print issues. It was good to see him treating himself to the spoils of his work.

Cuties.

Cuties.

More cuties.

And with that the lights were turned on and it was time to head home. Just another night for Richmond nightlife.
