SATURDAY: Long Arms/Horsehead Split EP Release Show At The Camel

by | Jul 14, 2011 | MUSIC

Long Arms and Horsehead are joining forces on a brand new 7 inch vinyl EP, which is excellent news for fans of heartfelt, country-influenced rock n’ roll. These two Richmond-based bands have been grabbing a lot of attention in recent months. Horsehead feature several Richmond music veterans, including Kevin Inge, formerly of Dragstrip Syndicate. Their third LP, 2010’s Before The Bright Lights, combines alternative rock, old-school country, and even a bit of Southern-fried soul together into an excellent musical stew that should bring joy to fans of Neil Young, Uncle Tupelo, and Ryan Adams. Long Arms, who are led by former Funsize/River City High vocalist James Menefee and feature members of Prabir/Goldrush, burst onto the scene last year with their debut LP, Long Arms To Hold You. Long Arms are clearly influenced by the work of Paul Westerberg, both as a solo artist and with his legendary band The Replacements. However, influences from both James’s pop-punk past and the more countrified instrumentation of Goldrush’s Treesa Gold come through quite strongly as well, giving Long Arms a sonic variety that keeps their work interesting over the course of their entire album. New songs from both of these bands promise to take their sounds to a new level, and the entire RVA scene will be able to get a taste of what’s to come from Long Arms and Horsehead at their record release show this Saturday at The Camel.

WHAT: Long Arms/Horsehead split EP release party!
WHO: Long Arms and Horsehead with Justin Jones
WHERE: The Camel (1621 W. Broad St.)
WHEN: Saturday, July 16, 9 PM
ADMISSION: $5

And hey, you’ll want to make sure you pick up a copy of the split at the show. Not only should it be awesome, but there are also 100 copies of the EP pressed on turquoise vinyl, as seen below. Isn’t that pretty? It’ll make a great addition to your record collection. But they’ll go quick, so grab one while you can!

After the jump, we’ve got some excellent video footage of Long Arms and Horsehead performing live. If you aren’t already convinced that this show will be a worthwhile way to spend your Saturday night, watch the videos. I think that’ll do the trick. Hope to see you there!
