A 5.9 magnitude earthquake has just hit the Richmond, Virginia area, prompting thousands to report to facebook that they were not hurt at all by the slight wobbling. (UPDATE: a facebook group for survivors has been formed, thus reducing the value of the term “survivor” greatly.) Richmond police have acknowledged that there is an interruption to some communication, but they are monitoring their twitter feed for emergency reports (that’s not a joke).
USGS has confirmed that there is a possibility of aftershocks. If you are inhabiting a brick building, or if the building you are in shows any damage from the quake, it may be in your best interest to calmly vacate the building until further notice, perhaps with a case of PBR and go to the river. The latter portion of this advisory is not confirmed by the USGS.
The epicenter of the quake was supposedly near Mineral, VA, but seismologists are still investigating if local deejay and sound engineer Conway Jennings may have prompted the quake by testing out his new badass subwoofers. Shit is a serious bass drop, y’all know how it is.
