Brooklyn-based black metal band Liturgy have had a divisive presence in the music scene over the past year or so, with many going nuts over their second album, Aesthethica, and just as many people reviling their lack of evil metal “cred” and their unwillingness to “keep it real.” I personally am very much pro-Liturgy, even going so far as to make Aesthethica my album of the year for 2011. And therefore it is with great joy that I bring you the newest video from the band, for Aesthethica‘s raging track “True Will.”

And therefore it is with great joy that I bring you the newest video from the band, for Aesthethica‘s raging track “True Will.” Beginning with multipart a capella vocal harmonies by the group, it soon blasts off into speedcore hyperdrive, with Hunter Hunt-Hendrix’s anguished shrieks striking the perfect counterpoint to Bernard Gann’s buzzing guitars and Greg Fox’s firecracker drumming. The video’s pretty hyper as well, mixing extremely brief performance shots of Liturgy with pseudo-religious non sequiturs and short loops that repeat over and over for seemingly no reason. It’s really hard to tell what it means, but I’m not sure that meaning is really all that important. Just let it wash over you–or run you over like a Mack truck, as the case may be.
