Here’s something that’s worth checking out–Richmond’s pre-eminent doom metal band, Cough, have just curated a mixtape for the metal website CVLT Nation. Here’s something that’s worth checking out–Richmond’s pre-eminent doom metal band, Cough, have just curated a mixtape for the metal website CVLT Nation. The mix, which was created on the occasion of Cough’s upcoming two-week tour with fellow herbally-inspired metal bands Weedeater and ASG, collects music from a whole bunch of bands that Cough have shared stages with over the years. Mixing bands from far-flung locales like Croatia and Australia with VA-based faves like Druglord, Windhand, and Earthling, this mix does a great job of letting us in on what’s going on in the worldwide doom metal scene. While not every track here displays the crawling, sluggish tempos that typify doom metal, for the most part this is a collection of very long, very slow tracks, and its full two-hour duration may be a bit much for novices to handle. However, any fan of heavy music is sure to find at least a few undiscovered gems hidden somewhere within. The tour that this mix celebrates will unfortunately not be coming through Richmond, so since we’re going to be denied the opportunity of seeing Cough play anytime in the near future, downloading this mix is the next best thing. And it’s totally free, so what are you waiting for?
