RVA Street Art Festival Kicked Off Today!

by | Apr 12, 2012 | ART

The RVA Street Art Festival artists are working down at the abandoned Alcoa Plant on the flood wall starting today. Mark Jenkins painted a giant target and is building the human darts to go with it. POSE, El Kamino, Chris Milk, HAM, and Broth were just starting their pieces. Ed Trask was carting around materials and chatting it up. Nick Kuszyk and Brad Bacon were at The Canal Club and well into an immense mural. HENSE and Jeff Soto were on the way to start today. More updates to come tomorrow.

There is a panel discussion at the VMFA with a few of the artists tonight. Make sure to check The RVA Street Art for all the information.

For those that don’t know, the Alcoa Plant can be found by following Virginia Street past Epic Theatre aka Hat Factory around the bend. It opens up to the flood wall and the plant is to your left. We are sure there are other ways to that spot but this is the only one we remember.

In 2005, I created RVA Magazine, and I'm still at the helm as its publisher. From day one, it’s been about pushing the “RVA” identity, celebrating the raw creativity and grit of this city. Along the way, we’ve hosted events, published stacks of issues, and, most importantly, connected with a hell of a lot of remarkable people who make this place what it is. "The Devils is a harsh film but it's a harsh subject. I wish the people who were horrified and appalled by it would have read the book, because the bare facts are far more horrible than anything in the film." - Ken Russell from An Appalling Talent: Ken Russell by John...

Review | Grace and Glorie is So Good You Forget it’s Acting

Yes, this is a review of the play Grace and Glorie, currently at Hanover Tavern. It is the Hanover Tavern part of that sentence that I want to focus on first. I’m probably going to get some side-eye for this, but I completely forgot Hanover Tavern existed. What in the...

Review | BLKS is a Mixed Bag at Richmond Triangle Players

I often come off like a chihuahua on sugar pills when reviewing plays for this magazine. I am excitable, yes, but never in the service of idle flattery. I also take no joy in being critical of people’s hard work. I’ve said this whole thing before several times, but I...
