Jo Casino – Weed and Andre
There have been many new faces around RVA lately, and one that I hear a lot of is Local emcee Jo Casino. The title of his new single, “Weed and Andre,” describes the content you will see in this video. This video was shot by local videographers No Name No Brain Productions, which I must say did a great job with the visuals, especially the slow motion reverse effects. All throughout the video he parties with his team, Bear Boyz. If Jo can keep up the buzz that he’s got right now, he may just be one of the next to break out of the RVA. It would be cool to have him be an official sponsor of Andre; as far as the other, he may have a long wait before he can sponsor that. Keep an eye out for this kid.
Tune – Like Me
I heard local emcee Tune at a show once, and since then I have been a regular listener. This kid has the talent, charisma, and the drive for hip hop. In this video, “Like Me,” he describes exactly how he thinks everyone should live free like him. One memorable bar which I have to quote because it was so cleaver was, “So what’s a day in my life like/ A porno star’s highlights, Ciroc bottles and nightlife/ living the Miller High Life, The Source just gave me 5 mics, cause I rhyme tight, on the limelight, stuck in a room with 9 dykes.” Crazy metaphors and lyrics are what catch my attention mostly in this song. The visual work is done by local videographers The Brownstonerz. You definitely need to keep ears to the social media and the streets for this emcee.
Artel Carter – Feel Dat
So I took a little trip out of the RVA this time, and came across Virginia Beach emcee Artel Carter. I recently spotted him at Epic Fest 2012–his stage performance definitely got my attention. I got to talk to him after the performance, and I can tell you he is one animated and ecstatic person when it comes to his music. He said they had a lot of fun filming this video, which was shot by Brian Washington. His wordplay surprises me and takes me back to a young Nas or even Big L. With talent like his, he definitely is a person any promoter would want to catch for his next bill. There’s talent all around Virginia, and thanks to Epic Fest I will feature a few more of them in the near future as well.
