Gent & Jawns, that much-loved electronic duo who represent Audio Ammo, have been taking things to a higher level outside of the RVA region this year. With a pair of new comp tracks that have received accolades from major music mags, as well as an upcoming tour with Major Lazer, Gent & Jawns are well on their way to being a household name to electronic music fans all over the world.

With a pair of new comp tracks that have received accolades from major music mags, as well as an upcoming tour with Major Lazer, Gent & Jawns are well on their way to being a household name to electronic music fans all over the world.
“TurnUp,” the first of their new comp tracks, comes from All Trap Music, a sampler from AEI Media that features some of the greatest new tracks in the trap style of electronic dance music. Trap mixes 808 beats and floor-rattling bass in a sound that takes inspiration from Southern rap producers like Lex Luger. In Rolling Stone’s review of the All Trap Music compilation, Michelangelo Matos singled out Gent & Jawns’ contribution, mentioning “TurnUp”‘s “squelching riffs” and “tweaked-out production trickery.” You can get the entire compilation, which also features contributions from Baauer (of “Harlem Shake” fame), Flosstradamus, 12th Planet, and more, from iTunes, or preorder the physical version, which drops on March 26, from Amazon. Gent & Jawns’ other big comp track is a collaboration with Nadastrom, “Snake Juice,” which leads off the T&A Records compilation Moombahton Forever. Reviewing the comp for SPIN Magazine, Puja Patel says that “Snake Juice” “giv[es] this 19-track set an immediate highlight.” Moving on, Patel describes how the song’s “sticky dancehall riddim clicks and claps its way to an emotionally manipulative build where elastic, horn-like synths mix with menacing dub growls, snaps and whistles.” Moombahton Forever, which also features tracks by Tittsworth, Munchi, Dillon Francis, and many more, is available in its entirety from Amazon, but you can stream the Nadastrom/Gent & Jawns collab “Snake Juice” right here and now:
And as if all of that isn’t ballin’ enough, last week Gent & Jawns announced that they’d be accompanying Major Lazer’s Free The Universe Tour over the course of its first week, which will see them opening for Diplo’s collaboratively focused group as they tour to celebrate the release of their Free The Universe album. Gent & Jawns will open for Major Lazer at seven shows in two countries, taking them all the way from Toronto to Georgia. This is great news for the local duo, who will be bringing the sonic destruction we’re all so familiar with from the packed dancefloors of local clubs to theaters all along the Eastern Seaboard. It’s great to see these hometown boys making good. Keep an eye on Gent & Jawns–with the way their 2013 is starting, it seems we can expect big things from them over the course of this year.
