What’s happening craft beer lovers of RVA?! Welcome to this week’s “Tapped,” RVA Magazine’s go to weekly craft beer column where you can find all your craft beer-related events, releases, festivals and all the booze news your little hearts’ desire.
If you missed last week’s beer news, you can check those out here. Our cup is overflowing with news this week from releases to events, and other cool happenings around town, so hold on to your mugs because we’re getting ready to tap this thing!
Kicking off the weekend is Triple Crossing’s 4th Anniversary celebration. On Friday, at the Fulton location, there will be can releases of Battle Creek DIPA and Infinite Reflections Stout. On Saturday, Downtown will have cans from Friday’s Fulton release plus Proximity Project White Rabbit Mixed Ferm Ale, Space Falcon IPA Crowler Release, Nightmare Canyon IPA DDH kegs and a TBA stout variant.

Legend will also be celebrating an anniversary this weekend. On Sat., April 14, Legend Brewing will throw down big to celebrate 24 years of brewing in Richmond. hosting live bands on the city stage, food trucks, face painting and cornhole. Free admission. Beer tickets will be available for $5 each. Food from Go Go Vegan Go, Mommas Barbecue, Boka Tako Truck, King Of Pops – Richmond. Live music from The Phantom Playboys, Wes Freed & Mag Bats, and Chamomile and Whiskey.

Canon & Draw Brewing in the Fan just released two new brews: Monday DIPA, which blends Simcoe, Citra, and Amarillo hops to create a potent fruit juice blend along with Schneider’s Apprentice, a lemony-lime ale.

On Monday, April 16, Garden Grove Brewery & Urban Winery will host a taproom dinner featuring Chef David Crabtree-Logan of The Broken Tulip to benefit WCVE. The five-course dinner will be paired with five Garden Grove craft beers and wine. This ticketed event is available as a thank you gift at the $100 donation level. One $100 donation is one ticket for the event.

Vasen Brewing will release its Vanilla Dubbel on Saturday, which featuring 150 Madagascar-bourbon vanilla beans.

Goochland’s Kindred Spirit Brewing has just released its Smells Like Fan Spirit in cans as well as cans of Paid in Full. Get ’em while you can along with some sweet merch.

It’s Despot Day on Saturday at Lickinghole Creek in Goochland. Sale begins at 12 pm, Saturday, April 14. No ticket required for entry or “right to buy” bottle purchase. To avoid lines and have transportation provided, there a few advanced ticket options. Full VIP Package, 2018 Despot pre-pack , live music, food trucks, nature hikes, and a new pin release per hour 12-7 pm. See Facebook link for details. School is in session! Head to Stone Brewing Richmond this Friday to attend their “Flight School” on Sour Beers. Starting at 7 pm sharp they’ll be pouring Stone White Ghost Berliner Weisse, Stone Mission Warehouse Sour: Apricot, Stone Cali-Belgique IPA Aged in Red Wine Barrels, and Dogfish Head/ Victory/ Stone Saison du BUFF aged in Red & White Wine Barrels! Tuition is $14 and includes the flight as well as the class.

This Thursday, Trapezium Brewing is back with a new brew from their Small Batch Pie Series. Brewmaster James Frazer has concocted this monthly series, and this time, its Lemon Meringue Pie, an imperial cream ale brewed with lactose, graham cracker, lemon zest and vanilla bean! And come prepared because this one packs a punch, clocking in at 7.1%.

Fine Creek Brewing Company will have a new batch of their Tart Grisette out this weekend. Tickets are also now on sale for their beer dinner with Chef Dallas Miller from The Daily Kitchen and Bar. Doors open for before-dinner drinks at 6:30. Seating for the dinner will begin at 7:00. Tickets are $68.84 for the five-course beer pairing dinner which you snag here. See link for menu details.
Twisted Ales Brewing is hosting a Post-Race Beer Bash for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life this Saturday after the Monument 10K. Proceeds will support the Relay For Life of Greater Richmond scheduled for May 5. Continental Divide Richmond food truck – Mexican, Tex-Mex, Southern cuisine. will donate a portion of their proceeds to fight cancer. Live music will be featured at the event as well. Raffle with prizes. The brewery also just released a new IPA called Victorian DeLorean so make sure to check that out!


Hardywood will host a food truck court at its Goochland location tonight, and another at its Richmond location on Thursday.
Strangeways Brewing has a few new releases including Go Go Juice Sour IPA brewed with pilsner and wheat malts, dry hopped with Galena, Calypso and Centennial hops, and Belgian Bomber Belgian Tripel, which is brewed with pilsner malt and fermented warm with the classic Belgian Ardennes strain. Fruity with notes of lemon pepper and green tea.
The brewery will also host a food truck court party after the Monument 10K.
On Saturday, Center of the Universe will release its Reel Heroes, in partnership with Connor’s Heroes Foundation to raise money ahead of the 8th Annual Heroes Art Ball. The Connor’s Heroes Foundation provides hope, guidance, and support to children with cancer and their families. Live music, food trucks, and 20% of Reel Heroes’ beer sales will go back to the charity.

On Thursday, Three Notch’d RVA Collab House returns with its weekly collaboration. This time, its Trade Secrets, Collab House brewer Stefan McFayden’s latest juicy Double IPA. Bursting with flavors of pineapple, passionfruit and citrus from Vic Secret and Mosaic hops, its impossible not to love this hop blend.

On Thursday, Final Gravity Brewing Co. will host a Vegan Taco Pop-Up with FeedShine. Check out the menu on the Facebook page. Free event, $7 for the three different tacos.

Final Gravity will also release three new brews on Friday. Level up with the tasty new Asteroids Hazy Double IPA with Columbus, Mosaic, and Citra hops, Space Invaders Hazy Double IPA with pure Mosaic hop, and New World Hoppy Saison with Amarillo & Simcoe hops.

To celebrate the uncertain Spring weather in Virginia, Glen Allen’s Intermission Brewing is releasing the last keg of their Winter Warmer.

Today, Buskey Cider will host a pop-up dinner with dessert concept Four Forks. This will be a three-course culinary event focused on shared dishes made from seasonal Virginia ingredients paired with a selection of ciders. There will be a trio of appetizers paired with Harrison cider, Cheese intermezzo paired with Charred Ordinary cider, and a trio of desserts paired with Blue Bee’s Firecracker.

On Saturday, Blue Bee Cider will release its Hewe’s Crab cider. Hewe’s Crab was a revered cider apple of the colonial-era South, first noted as an American cider apple in James City County, Virginia, in 1741. Thought to be extinct after Prohibition, Hewe’s Crab was cultivated back into existence after a single tree was discovered in a commercial orchard near Williamsburg in the 1990s. Available on draft and in a limited run of 750 ml bottles.
