Richmond knows how to celebrate.

Richmond knows how to celebrate. The newest incarnation of the RVA Street Festival at Southern State silos in Manchester this past weekend was a big success.

This marks the third year for the annual street arts fest which brings together national and loal muralists, sculptors and other artists. This is its first year at the Southern State silos. Previously, it was held at the Canal Walk and the former GRTC Bus Depot.

The goal of this year’s festival was to revitalize the Manchester area and bring life to the dilapidated silos buildings. Check out our interview with co-organizer, founder and local muralist ED Trask on why they picked this location to hold this year’s festival and who was involved here.

You can also read up on interviews with muralists Nathaniel Russel, Emily Herr, and Chris Milk here.

For those that missed out, check out a few of the images we found on the #RVAStreetArt instagram hashtag and if you have time, head down there to 1 Manchester Rd. to see these murals in person.

In 2005, I created RVA Magazine, and I'm still at the helm as its publisher. From day one, it’s been about pushing the “RVA” identity, celebrating the raw creativity and grit of this city. Along the way, we’ve hosted events, published stacks of issues, and, most importantly, connected with a hell of a lot of remarkable people who make this place what it is.
