Tomorrow night, Margarita’s Cantina (107 North 18th Street) will host The Curtis Cornell Memorial Fundraiser, to benefit the Cornell family after the tragic loss of their father and husband. Curtis was a fellow Richmond resident whose individual contributions most likely resonated long enough to touch each and every one of our lives in one way or another.

Curtis’ family is currently suffering through a very difficult emotional and financial period, and so the fine employees at Margarita’s Cantina have come together to selflessly help their fellow Richmonders, with medical bills and funeral expenses associated with loosing someone close to them, via a silent art auction and raffle that will be taking place tomorrow.

Charles Berger (Ink/Marker – Framed)

This event should hit close to home for all of us that worry about the financial burden attached to loosing a close relative. But even if it does not, many businesses have contributed giftcards (The Camel, Margarita’s, On The Rox, etc.) and prizes to be raffled off, in hopes of raising funds to help out with the Cornell families expenses. A very special silent auction will also be taking place during the event, and some great original work will be up for grabs, from some excellent local artists such as: Shawn J. Miller, Charles Berger (from Heroes and Ghosts Tattoo Shop), Chris Visions (Local Illustrator), and many more… Also up for auction will be this lovely Amstel Light beach cruiser, and a $200 Gift Certificate to 212 Tattoo.

Hit up the event page (HERE) for more information, and come hang out, anytime from 12pm – 2am, buy some raffle tickets, bid on some lovely art, and just have an all around great time celebrating the life of Curtis Cornell and his family.

Review | ‘Confederates’ Doesn’t Let Anyone Off Easy

“Oh, I’m going to have a field day with this.” These were my exact words to friend and artist Kyle Epps as I got up from my seat at Firehouse Theatre Saturday night. As we shuffled out of the theatre into the lobby, I took inventory of the stack of insights Dominique...

Review | Oscar Wilde Still Knows Exactly Who We Are

The Importance of Being Ernest has been on my radar since I was 13, when my beloved Morrissey mentioned Oscar Wilde in an interview. (Mind you, this was long before Morrissey’s far-right weirdo rants.) As a massive fan of the arch, wry, witty lyrics of the Smiths and...

Review | Little Bear Ridge Road is an Artistic Gut Punch

Little Bear Ridge Road, does something you rarely see in popular media these days. It reminisces on the period during and just after Covid. Somehow, collectively, we’ve silently agreed to just not talk about it anymore. We don’t want to relive it on TV, in books, or...

Richmond’s Famous Romantix Mural Gets a New Chapter

For a decade, the mural outside the Romantix adult store, formerly Taboo, on Midlothian Turnpike has been one of Richmond's most debated pieces of public art. Now it's gone, replaced by a new collaboration between tattoo artist and muralist Jesse Smith and Miami-based...

Can Firehouse Put Richmond on the National Theatre Map?

In the electric and perpetually sincere terrain of Richmond’s theatre culture, there are institutions that do more than merely reside, they lead. They serve as a measure of our city's potential beyond its natural aspirations. I've witnessed Firehouse Theatre inhabit...

For one weekend, Agecroft Hall stopped being a museum and became a kingdom.  What began as a fundraiser to help launch Richmond's first Renaissance Faire has grown into a destination of its own. Warriors in Bloom, created by the folks at Virago Alley, returned with...
