It’s the first Friday in May and RVA First Fridays Artwalk is back with tons of exhibits, music, artist showcases, events and fun happenings for you to check out this month.

Here are a few picks from this month’s roundup that RVA MAG liked:

Shop for a Cause at Dress for Success

Join Dress for Success Central Virginia on Friday, May 5, 2017 for their signature pop up, Shop for a Cause. During their excess inventory sale you can choose from new, designer, gently used and vintage clothing at great prices with 100% of proceeds benefiting Dress for Success Central Virginia!

“Put This On” at Endeavor

Endeavor will showcase 20 local artists with a wide variety of T-shirt designs for “Put This On” tonight. There will be a variety of fashion and styles including stitched patch work and hand done screen prints, Travis Robertson, a local screen-printer and artist will be air-brushing custom shirts live.

Markets at Monroe

Ourdoor market Markets at Monroe opens tonight at the corner of Broad and Monroe, and will include many local vendors selling handmade designs, crafts, art, food, and other goods.

Freedom Fridays at the Black History Museum

The New York style Hustle is a social partner dance created in the 70s. Kym and Kyle Grinnage will be teaching some of the basics tonight at the Black History Museum & Cultural Center. The Museum will be open until 8 PM. Guided tours will be available at 5:30 PM and Kym & Kyle will dance at 6:30 PM.

Gallery5 First Fridays Roundup

Galllery5 has a packed First Fridays schedule with something for everyone. “Open Inbox” a new exhibit by artist Barry O’Keefe opens tonight. The exhibit is a series of five public sculptures, designed for five different neighborhoods. They are designed to function both as monuments to neighborhood history and identity, and as functional community message boards and meeting points.

Kappa Pi, the International Honorary Art Fraternity at VCU will display “Tandem” exploring themes of dualities and parallels.

Fat Spirit will also be releasing their new album Nihilist Blues tonight so check that out along with performances from BIG NO, Dynamo, and Slump.

Photography exhibit at 9WG

9WG Studios presents local photographers Mark Bare, Jimmy Powell, and Rob Pfeiffer. A variety of photographic genres are on exhibit, including: landscapes, cityscapes, nature, macro, street, black & white, and travel photography. The reception includes wine, music and apps.

DRY LAND at TheatreLAB

DRY LAND is a play about abortion, female friendship, resiliency, and what happens in one high school locker room after everybody’s left. Only two performances left tonight and tomorrow at TheatreLAB! Tickets and more available here.
