Glave Kocen Gallery will offer their first VCU College Nite Art Sale at their gallery tomorrow night.

Glave Kocen Gallery will offer their first VCU College Nite Art Sale at their gallery tomorrow night. All of the artists featured are current VCU students displaying their art through different platforms.

VCU’s Art Nite is the brainchild of Arianna Rose, an intern at Glave Kocen.

“I feel like she came up with this idea,” said BJ Kocen, co-owner and co- director of the gallery. “And in supporting our internship and also being interested to see if low and behold there is a new and emerging artists that is coming out of VCU that we might be interested in, we thought that this would be a killer idea.”

Rose began her search by emailing different VCU professors, scouting current talent at the college. She also pulled from her own resources, being a former music minor at VCU.

“It was difficult in the sense that we have so much quality work coming in,” said Rose. “It was hard to make the decisions on what exactly we want to display”

Glave Kocen gallery typically features contemporary themes to their art, and the show will not stray far from their scene. “I tried to keep the overall theme of the show in conjunction with work that we’ve displayed in the past or are currently displaying” she said .

With Current taking place last month, pop art shows seem to be all the rave this season. “Maybe we got the fever a little bit” said Kocen.

The show will feature a variety of art mediums including but not limited to oil paintings, clay work, glass work, photography, floor installations.

If you find something you like, you are welcome to make a purchase. That will range anywhere between $30 – $1,500, depending on the piece.

All of the artists featured are current VCU students and are not limited to the art program at the university. Rose shared her wisdom to some who may currently have a passion for art that they want to share.

“Don’t be afraid to reach out to people with more experience than you. You never know what responses you’re going to get back so don’t be afraid to reach out to people and put yourself out there,” she said.

VCU College Nite is on November 18, from 6-9 p.m. The event will provide light refreshments and showcase a multitude of local and emerging talent. Glave Kocen Gallery is located at 1620 W Main St, Richmond, VA 23220.
