Photos | Downtown Richmond In Black and White by Colin Sheppard

by | Nov 22, 2024 | ART, DOWNTOWN RVA, NIGHTLIFE, PHOTOGRAPHY

Photographer Colin Sheppard’s latest film photography set, shot on his Nikon N6006 with a 50mm lens and printed on Ilford XP2 Super, captures downtown Richmond in all its gritty, timeless beauty. Ilford XP2 Super is a black-and-white film processed with C-41 color chemicals, offering fine grain, smooth tones, and exceptional detail. This shot of the Main Street Station clock tower shows how the grain and depth of film bring the city’s authentic character to life with classic yet accessible results.

Imagine pulling into a suburban shopping center to buy a toaster and finding a department store that appeared to be falling apart with corners breaking away, walls peeling open like a giant cardboard box, or facades seemingly collapsing under their own weight. For...
