St. Benedicts annual Oktoberfest was a big hit too! Check out the crowd below. We were there, but my boyfriend was in an embarassing hat so I’m kindly saving you from those photos and you can check out these photos of beer lovers competing in the stein contest instead!

Anyway, on to this week’s news! Hold out your cups and get ready for the good stuff!

Probably one of the coolest events, which is centered around the huge UCI Bike Race going on all this week, is Triple Crossing Brewing’s event A Taste of Richmond Bike Week Block Party on Thursday Sept. 24. Strangeways has two really AWESOME beer releases coming out this weekend. First up, is the Rot In Hell Pumpkin Sour on Saturday.

The next is “Just Say Go,” a Belgian Black Tripel that is a collaboration with harcore punk metal band Iron Reagan!! Yes, they are that cool. The beer will be released this Sunday and on top of that, Iron Reagan will be peforming along with Valient Thorr, GIVE and Unsacred. Read our story on the collaboration here.

Ardent Craft Ales even made their own beer in honor of the big cycling event. Called Radler, its citrusy brew that the brewery made in collaboration with cycling apparel company Rapha. RVA News has more on the story here. It will be available in their taproom through the weekend.

Center of the Universe is celebating the bike race with a Hanover Bike Fest and party in their beer garden tonight. Head out to Rutland Commons in Mechanicsville and enjoy an afternoon filled with live Music, local food vendors, COTU brews beers and more!

And sorry I have been slacking on my Center of the Universe beer updates, but they just released four cool ones last month I think you should know about. The Ashland brewery has four new smoked beers on draft including Cherrywood and Mesquite Dopplebocks, a Rye Smoked Porter, and a Smoked Mild Ale. Yum. Go check ’em out!

Garden Grove just released some new tasty brews as well. They’re called Life and Death and I know first hand, they are delicious. Life is Belgian Quad with white wine that’s sweet and peachy. Death is a Belgian Quad made with red wine. It’s very intense. Go have yourself one or five at the Carytown brewery!

Starr Hill is still celebrating their Sweet 16 and this week they have a new beer for you. This Saturday, they will release the King of Hops Variant which includes Grapefruit and Habanero versions of their Imperial IPA.
