Great Gatsby Richmond! The Bootlegger’s Ball Comes To The Bull & Bear Club!

by | Feb 4, 2014 | COMMUNITY

Sometimes there is a party in town that demands “high society” style. This can be totally fun, and doesn’t happen very often–so why not get fancy and go? Get your hair did, knock the dust off that nice suit and tie, put some shine on those shoes, and get ready for a good-time time warp!

Jimmy Budd, the setup man with the skyline background

To pull it off, you need the perfect setting, and this year’s Bootlegger’s Ball will be held at The Bull & Bear Club. Haven’t been there? That’s not surprising, since it has an exclusive membership, as well as the absolute best skyline view of the city. Most people have no idea that it even exists for a reason, but everyone is invited to this event–secret handshakes and passwords not needed.

On Saturday, February 8th, on the 21st floor of The James Center, inside The Bull & Bear Club, Jimmy Budd, D. Hayden Fisher, Jake Crocker, and Evan Bruhn present The Bootlegger’s Ball, a prohibition themed affair. Break out your vintage threads and enjoy The Big Payback: A Tribute to James Brown, Frank Sinatra by McGill Lee Jackson, a few improv singalongs with Piano Mike, and some funky-disco-house by DJ Phil Dice & Agent.

Jack Lauterback of 103.7 Play, and Kelli S. Lemon of 99.3/105.7 KISS FM / NBC12’s RVA Grooves, will be hosting, 21+, 8:00pm – 2:00am

After enough drinks, it might be like this —>

Grab your tickets HERE while you can, as we can only fit around 450 people inside The Bull & Bear Club. Tickets are $20, and proceeds go to RVA FC, the city’s Non-Profit Men’s Professional Soccer Team.

In 2005, I created RVA Magazine, and I'm still at the helm as its publisher. From day one, it’s been about pushing the “RVA” identity, celebrating the raw creativity and grit of this city. Along the way, we’ve hosted events, published stacks of issues, and, most importantly, connected with a hell of a lot of remarkable people who make this place what it is. There’s a Murder Coming to Richmond, and You’re Stuck on the Train

Virginia Repertory Theatre is kicking off its new season the way any sensible theatre should: with a train, a murder, and a detective who’s just trying to make sense of it all. Murder on the Orient Express is Agatha Christie’s great reminder that people are both awful...

Confederate Nostalgia, Black Voices: The Paradox of Polk Miller

Over a century ago, engineers from the Edison Company hauled their bulky recording equipment from New Jersey to Richmond, Virginia. In 1909, they captured one of the first interracial recording sessions in American history: Polk Miller, a white Confederate veteran...

The Felon Who Built Scott’s Addition

Before the beer taps and condos, before the buzzwords about ‘revitalization,’ Scott’s Addition’s future passed through the hands of a single man: Justin Glynn French. A convicted felon whose empire collapsed in scandal, he set the stage, even if unintentionally, for...

It’s Still Our City | Ep. 13 Stooping RVA

"The joy of finding a perfectly reusable gem on a sidewalk, in an alley, or on a porch stoop is one of the perks of living in such close proximity in the city of Richmond. The FOMO of not making it on your bike in time for a taxidermy dolphin or a surprisingly decent...
