Make a Difference: Join the Richmond Civilian Review Board

The City of Richmond has announced the formation of the Richmond Civilian Review Board and is seeking dedicated residents to serve on this vital body. This is a unique opportunity for community members to play a significant role in fostering transparency, trust, and accountability within the Richmond Police Department.

The Richmond Civilian Review Board, established under the Richmond Code of Laws/Ordinances (Chapter 2, Article V.; Division 20; Section 2-1202.1., et seq.), will consist of eight members who will serve three-year terms.

The Board’s primary responsibilities include reviewing, investigating, and making recommendations regarding specific internal investigations conducted by the Richmond Police Department. This important work aims to ensure that investigations are thorough, impartial, and accurate, ultimately enhancing the relationship between law enforcement and the community they serve.

Who Should Apply?

The City of Richmond is looking for applicants who meet the following criteria:

  • Residency: Must be a resident of the City of Richmond.
  • Independence: Must not have current or previous experience as a law enforcement officer.
  • No Conflicts: Must not have family or household members currently in law enforcement roles.
  • Legal Standing: Must not be involved in pending litigation with the City of Richmond.
  • Commitment: Must have a strong dedication to justice, fairness, and community engagement.
