The blame, according to City Council, comes from the Mayor’s administration shifting $9 million into the city’s school system, an issue Style highlighted earlier this year. But now that shift is forcing services like mowing of city land, trash collection and ally cleaning, and seasonal services like leaf collection and snow plowing, on the back burner.
But some city council members are saying the issue is being blown out of proportion.
“We don’t need a manufactured crisis,” said 3rd District Councilman Chris A. Hilbert told the TD. “I don’t even understand the motivation here, and I think it’s unfortunate that this is coming at a time when we’re getting ready to play host to an international audience.”
The expect reduction in services is linked to two audit reports released last week.
