Tapped: Father’s Day events, Legend’s Glencoe Ghost, & Ardent turns 3

What’s happening craft beer lovers of RVA?! Welcome to this week’s “Tapped,” RVA Magazine’s go to weekly craft beer column where you can find all your craft beer-related events, releases, festivals and all the booze news your little hearts desire.

Our cup is overflowing with news this week from releases, to events, and other cool happenings around town, so hold on to your mugs because we’re getting ready to tap this thing!

Legend Brewing Co’s newest installment to the Urban Legend Series, The Glencoe Ghost, is being tapped for the preview release at the pub this Thursday. It is a Scotch Ale inspired by the ghostly steps and scents of roses that lurk the Glencoe Inn Bed & Breakfast. No automatic alt text available.

Choosy Mother’s counterpart, the Fastidious Father, is making his return to Isley on Father’s Day this Saturday! Treat your dad to some tasty brews, BBQ, and more! This delicious Banana Peanut Butter Oatmeal Porter will be available In-House & To-Go in crowlers/growlers. Outdoor Games, Indoor Big Screens, and Live Music Outdoors Beginning at 2PM

This Friday, Triple Crossing will release their Green Dreams DIPA in cans at their Fulton location. No automatic alt text available.

Ardent Craft Ales is celebrating their Third Anniversary with their huge annual block party this Saturday from 12 to 8 pm. They will have a slew of beers from other breweries available along with a special beer brewed just for the occasion: theThird Anniversary Tripel, available on draft and in bottles! Bands lineup:  The Trillions ▸ 1pm
Clair Morgan, 2pm, Mikrowaves, 3pm, McKinley Dixon, 4pm, Prabir , 5pm. Food truck lineup in link above! This event is free to enter and open to the public. Beverage purchases (21+) will be ticketed; $6 per ticket, with ticket sales at the door and inside the event. This Saturday, Lickinghole Creek will release the owner’s own private reserve stock of Enlightened Despot. They will be filling just 200 growlers on a first come, first serve basis. The brewery will be pouring Despot and a few of our other limited beers such as our Magnificent Pagan Beast Barleywine and Redneck Wedding. No automatic alt text available.Final Gravity will release its Flightless IPA on Friday which is brewed with 100% Nelson Sauvin hops from New Zealand and named in honor of the flightless Kiwi bird native to the country. This hazy yellow IPA is bursting with fruit flavor and carries a subtle white wine character and a brisk bitterness balancing out the fruit. 2 Crowler limit.

Strangeways Brewing will release a DELICIOUS looking brew this weekend, the Chocolate Decadence Ice Cream Stout, a collaboration with Gelati Celesti. This beer was inspired by Gelati Celesti’s Chocolate Decadence, their very best seller since opening in 1984 and will be available on draft and in 750ml bottles. Beer Floats and Gelati Celesti will be parked at the brewery!

On Saturday, Strangeways will have a benefit show for the Virginia Anti-Violence Project. Free. Live music. 

Strangeways is throwing down big for Father’s Day on Sunday. Decatur Crabs will be there with fresh steamed hardshell blue crabs. GMT food truck will be serving up more options like chicken wings, burgers, mac and cheese, etc.  Top off all this deliciousness with a cone from the Gelati Celesti ice cream truck, or better yet an ice cream beer float. Corn hole and other games all day. All food options are available al a carte. FREE to attend, pet friendly on the patio.

Hardywood will release The Barley in the Rye on Friday. It’s the brewery’s Barleywine aged patiently in Kentucky Rye Whisky barrels for two and a half years. Live music. Food trucks.

On Sunday, Hardywood will host their annual Keg ‘n’ Oyster Fest for Father’s Day. Pair your favorite Hardywood drafts with Rappahannock oysters: presented raw and fried, along with Rappahannock’s house crab cake recipe and more treats from King Of Pops – Richmond, Monique’s Crepes, River City Wood Fire Pizza andSlideways Mobile Bistro! This event is FREE to attend & family friendly! Beer and food are available a la carte. Hardywood Oyster Stout will be available on draft through the weekend.

Calling all Hefeweizen lovers! Midnight Brewery will release their FDT – “Friends Drink Together” Hefeweizen wheat beer Saturday, June 17th.

To celebrate Father’s Day, Center of the Universe is throwing their 3rd Annual Dad’s Day Pig Out on Sunday. They will have whole pigs being cooked on site to accompany COTU brewsand live music from The Royal We! Tickets include:  Limited Edition “Dad’s Day Pigout” mug, 1 Mug fill of his favorite COTU Brew, 1 Pig out food plate from Firehouse BBQ. Tickets are $20 and available at the brewery only, but will also be offered the day of. Food and drink will be available on a a la carte basis for anyone attending the brewery. Families and leashed dogs are welcome.
