Tapped: Kindred Spirit turns 1, Final Gravity’s Apollo DIPA, & Hardywood’s Foolery release

What’s happening craft beer lovers of RVA?! Welcome to this week’s “Tapped,” RVA Magazine’s go to weekly craft beer column where you can find all your craft beer-related events, releases, festivals and all the booze news your little hearts’ desire.

We are nearing the end of Virginia Craft Beer Month, but our cup is still overflowing with news this week from releases to events, and other cool happenings around town, so hold on to your mugs because we’re getting ready to tap this thing!

Kindred Spirit Brewing is celebrating one year on Saturday and they have a whole day of festivities planned starting at noon. The brewery will have live music from Andrew Alli and the Mainline and Haze & Dacey, food from Smok-N-Pigz and River City Wood Fire Pizza, beer and cheese pairings with Truckle Cheesemongers, Special kegs full of limited edition celebration brews just for the celebration, Special limited edition KSB anniversary gear for sale, and two new bottle releases:  PLANETARY AND BLACK MAGIC.

Isley will release its Charlie Barley IPA on Saturday. Live music and food trucks.

On Saturday, Isley is also partnering with the Hanover Humane Society for an adoption event at the brewery. They will have dogs on site  from 12:00-4:00pm for adoption, and we will have live music from 2:00-9:30pm from Zack Artis, Boxwave, and Jonathan Vassar + The Badlands!Image may contain: text

It’s another Saturday shindig at Midnight Brewery this weekend. Music from Commonwealth Bluegrass Band (5-8PM) and food from Papa V’s North Carolina BBQ (1-8PM).

On Friday, Final Gravity will release its brand new Apollo DIPA, an 8% beer brewed with Apollo, Mosaic, and Amarillo hops.

This Sunday, Strangeways Brewing will host a benefit for Friends of Richmond K-9s. Richmond K-9 will have a dunk tank (dunk an Officer, kid zone with coloring books and face painting, photo opportunities with our Officers and K-9’s and police K-9 demos. Richmond K-9 will have a merchandise table on site with hats, t shirts and much more. They will have their lucky field raffle with first prize of $1,000, then drawings for $300, $200 and many other great prizes. Raffle tickets are $5.00 each. Bikini Panini’s Food Truck will be on site, along with Sweet Frog!

Foolery and Coconut Cassowary return to Hardywood this Saturday. The taproom is open from 1-10PM with Foolery (milk stout) available on draft (no growler fills) and in 750mL bottles to go. Coconut Cassowary will also be available on draft and in 750mL to go! Hardywood will have Arroz RVASmokie JOE’S BBQ and Sugar Shack Donuts truck on site! Live music will start at 5 PM with Nick Names, OpinDave Watkins, and Wes Swing!!

On Monday, Garden Grove Brewing Company will host a charity beer dinner for the VCU Rice River Center featuring Chef Craig Perkinson of Southbound! This is a rare opportunity to support and learn about the vital work and research being conducted at the Rice Rivers Center while enjoying a five-course meal paired with Garden Grove Brewing Company and Urban Winery’s beers and wines. $59 plus tax & tip. Powhatan’s Fine Creek Brewing Company has quite a few events going on this weekend. On Thursday, 8/24 its FeedMore Benefit night. A portion of proceeds from this evening will go to FeedMore. They will also release Game Winner, a Citra & Amarillo IPA.

Finally, on Sunday, 8/27 Fine Creek will host an End of Summer Cookout with Bluegrass, Barbecue half chickens, and de Rochonnet Delights Chocolatier. Cook County Bluegrass will be playing from 3:30-6:30. They will be slow cooking half chickens over charcoal. And de Rochonnet will be serving gelato and other dessert items outside. They will release ‘Should Elope, Can’t Elope’, a Cantaloupe Saison.

Three Notch’d Brewing RVA Collab House returns this week with their weekly collaboration. This time it’s the re-release of COPA Bruce Juice”, an IPA brewed in partnership with the Central VA Soccer Association. Collab taps at 5pm, Brewer’s Toast after 6pm and pint specials on the 1st keg until it kicks or until 9pm.No automatic alt text available.

Ardent Craft Ales is hosting a beer dinner tonight at Beijing on Grove featurng four courses by CHef Zhao with Ardent’s beers. $50 a person. Call the restaurant at 804.288.8875 or ask any Beijing on Grove team member to reserve your spot today.

Ardent will also have a bottle release of its Brett Saison tomorrow night.  This beer won a bronze medal in the brett beer category at the 2016 Great American Beer Festival,

Buskey Cider will have a Teacher Appreciation Feast on Friday before school starts with pizza, cider, prizes and more. 3 to 9 pm.  For each cider or other item you buy, you get a raffle ticket to be entered in our grand prize full of school supplies to kick off your school year in style! Buskey Cider will also be donating $1 from each pint of cider to Building a Better RPS to help raise funds for our adopted school, Carver Elementary School. Bottoms Up Pizza will be generously discounting their slices for teachers and those that come out to the event! They’ll also be donating 15% of sales to Building a Better RPS!

On Saturday, Steam Bell Beer Works will release its Bergsaft Wheat Ale,  a 4% medium bodied Wheat Ale with notes of banana + clove and a crisp finish.

On Sunday, The Veil Brewing Co. will host a seafood pop up with Northern Neck Oyster Co. and Chef Andrew Manning and Steve Farr. Expect Raw Oysters and Crabs from the Chesapeake Bay, Brasa (wood and coal grilled) Monkfish, Spicy Octopus, and more.
