What’s happening craft beer lovers of RVA?! Welcome to this week’s “Tapped,” RVA Magazine’s go to weekly craft beer column where you can find all your craft beer-related events, releases, festivals and all the booze news your little hearts desire.

Our cup is overflowing with news this week, but first head over here to check out what awesome brews were released in Richmond last weekend.

We’ve got new beer releases, a new brewery, a BIG collaboration and more so hold on to your mugs because we’re getting ready to tap this thing!

The biggest news is a new brewery for Goochland! Kindred Spirit Brewing just opened last weekend off West Creek Parkway with eight beers on tap and a focus on IPAs. Check out our interview with one of the co-founders here. This weekend they are hosting The Soul Proprietors, one of Richmond’s preeminent R&B, Motown and Soul bands. Tavern 19 will be providing some great BBQ as well!

Tonight is the last day to celebrate Virginia Craft Beer Month and Hardywood is sending it out in style with a bunch of specials. Their taps are flowing from 4-9PM with a tasty mobile menu by Kitchenette available all evening! There will be special prices on 750mL bottles to go — ask your server for additional details!

And try not to drool all over your computer pumpkin spice lovers, because pumpkin beers have already begun to sprout up! Hardywood will release its Farmhouse Pumpkin this Saturday.

This Labor Day Weekend Garden Grove Brewing Company goes “Back to Old-School” with a historical ale release to benefit Richmond Public Schools.

On Saturday Sept 3rd, just a few days before children return to classrooms, GGBC releases “Old Virginia Spruce Porter”: an old-school ale based on two historical recipes and brewed with locally grown Spruce Tips. A portion of all taproom proceeds being donated to Building a Better RPS. The celebration and benefit carry on throughout the holiday weekend as GGBC donates $1 for every draft of this historical ale poured Saturday, Sunday & Monday (Sept 3-5th).

Triple Crossing will release its Trace Amounts Session IPA this Saturday. Don’t have many other details so you will have to just head to the brewery to taste for yourself.

On Saturday, Lickinghole will release a Carrot Cake Imperial Amber Ale. Made with hundreds of pounds of freshly grated carrots. Spice notes of cinnamon, all spice, cardamon, clove and vanilla compliment the fresh carrot flavor.

Ardent will release Mau Rakau on Friday, an American Pale Ale with New Zealand Rakau hops.

The brewery will also release its Georgie brew, a mixed berry ale specifically brewed for Pride month in Sept in support of the LGBTQ community.

To round out your Labor Day weekend, Ardent will host a beer brunch, Sun. Sept 4th. Enjoy ham biscuits, and breakfast burritos. The occasion will be capped off with Beer Bloody Marys made with Texas Beach Bloody Mary Mix. Free to enter and pay as you go for food and drinks. Starts at 12pm.

Center of the Universe in Ashland will release their Porgie brew, a chocolate pudding porter on Saturday. This is in part with Ardent’s Georgie beer, which are both collaborations with VA Pride and OutRVA to support Pride Month in September.

Some other pretty big news: On Tuesday, Stone Brewing hosted a collaboration brew day with Governor McAuliffe, Ardent Craft Ales and Hardywood Park Craft Brewery. The first collaboration at Stone Brewing – Richmond, the three breweries got together to brew an aggressively hopped imperial stout celebrating the community’s emergent craft beer scene. The beer, Give Me Stout or Give Me Death, will be released throughout the Richmond area this September. The stout (Governor McAuliffe’s preferred style of beer) will be jam-packed with Virginia-grown raspberries and blackberries, a true tribute to Richmond.

To submit events or releases to Tapped, please email amy@rvamag.com. Also, if you’ve got beer you would like us to try and review, please feel free to send it to RVA Magazine at 2501 Monument Ave. Cheers!

Every time I go to the Aldi on Arthur Ashe at Broad St., En Su Boca tries to seduce me with its tequila and tacos perfume. It doesn’t work all the time, but I feel the pull when I’m browsing the nonsense in Aldi’s middle aisle. I once bought sweatpants there. I’m not...
