What’s happening craft beer lovers of RVA?! Welcome to this week’s “Tapped,” RVA Magazine’s go to weekly craft beer column where you can find all your craft beer-related events, releases, festivals and all the booze news your little hearts desire.

Our cup is overflowing with news this week, but first head over here to check out what awesome brews were released in Richmond last weekend.

So 2017 started off pretty crazy and it seems it’s just getting crazier by the day, but one thing you can count on is RVA Mag will always have the scoop on where you can go to get the finest craft beer in town! This week we have new beer releases, events, and other cool happenings around town, so hold on to your mugs because we’re getting ready to tap this thing!

So we are still in the middle RVA Mag’s Beer Madness 2017!!! March Madness is all anyone can talk about and college basketball brackets will soon be shattered beyond recognition before you know it, but we like to have some fun here at RVA Mag. So, every year, we put together a bracket of all the RVA brew spots and have them go head to head in a matchup with you, the reader, voting on the best ones!

You can click here to read all about our Beer Madness, the breweries, restaurants and other cool beer spots that we have lined up, and how to cast your vote. You can also see the Beer Madess bracket! This link will also take you to the poll to cast your vote. The winner will be announced April 3rd before the NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP GAME.

Steam Bell Beer Works will host their 1st annual RVA Brews & Blues Fest this Saturday, March 25th. The event that will kick off around 12PM with live music, food from Intergalactic Tacos and Eastern Star, and of course, beer. Seven bands all encompassing some form of the Blues genre will perform. The Chesterfield brewery will also release a small batch beer, Old Salt Gose. Tickets are $30, get more info and purchase yours here.

Strangeways Brewing has a delicious brew for us this weekend. They will release their collab with Sugar Shack this weekend, the Sugar Shack Samoa Porter, a luscious, donut-inspired 7% samoa porter, with decadent flavors of caramel, toasted coconut and dark chocolate. This collaboration between STRANGEWAYS BREWING and Sugar Shack Donuts will be available in limited bottles and on draft. BONUS: They will have FREE Sugar Shack Samoa donuts for beer release customers when they open at 11am as well as Girl Scout cookies available for purchase from 11-3pm.

Hardywood will release its Bourbon Barrel Cru this Saturday. This 12% brew will be available on draft and in 750 ml bottles to go. Food trucks and live music!

Ardent Craft Ales will release Company Man, a German-style pilsner this Saturday. Company Man will be available on draft only. We’ll be selling half-liter dimpled mugs for the occasion to give you the full pils experience. ZZQ will be here with their Texas craft barbeque from noon until they sell out, and Intergalactic Tacos will join us with tacos and Tex-Mex at 4pm.

Tonight is Garden Grove’s Two Year Anniversary of Trivia Night hosted by Andrew Brasington at 7:30pm. Extra special prizes this week, including a cash prize for 1st place.

And on Monday, Garden Grove will host a Mario Kart Tournament with Bits & Pixels. Sign ups begin at 5:00, tournament to begin 6:30. Gift cards and prizes for winners. Event page will go up on facebook for both us and Bits & Pixels today.

It’s been awhile since we mentioned Origin Beer Lab, Center of the Universe’s sister brewery in Ashland, to you but they are steadily brewing some cool stuff over there! Go try out their newest beers, an Oatmeal Stout and the Irish Red Ale this weekend. 106 S Railroad Ave.

Triple Crossing will release their collaboration brew with Stone Brewing, Fulton Rising DIPA, this Friday. This DIPA showcases Columbus, Mosaic and Falconer’s Flight hops as well as a predominately German Pils malt bill. A percentage of proceeds from all beer sales will go to benefit the Fulton Neighborhood Resource Center.

This Sunday, Lickinghole Creek will release Secretariat’s Meadow, an 8.5 % ABV, Imperial Red India Pale Ale.

This Saturday, Goochland brewery Kindred Spirit Brewing will celebrate Springfest, releasing three new beers! The brewery, located at 12830 W. Creek Parkway, will release Strawberry Milkshake, ThaIPA and Cosmic Haze. They all sound delicious, I can’t wait to give these a try! There will also be foosball, vintage arcade games, darts, cornhole, giant Jenga, BBQ from Jadean’s Smokin’ Six O, and music from Kris Scott Music.
