Tapped: Triple Crossing’s Salinity Gose, Lickinghole’s Virginia Black Bear, & Hardywood’s Gingerbread Stout

What’s happening craft beer lovers of RVA?! Welcome to this week’s “Tapped,” RVA Magazine’s go to weekly craft beer column where you can find all your craft beer-related events, releases, festivals and all the booze news your little hearts’ desire.

If you missed last week’s beer news, you can check those out here. Our cup is overflowing with news this week from releases to events, and other cool happenings around town, so hold on to your mugs because we’re getting ready to tap this thing!

Back on tap at Triple Crossing’s Fulton location is Salinity Gose. This crushable 3.8% ABV Gose features salt and coriander. Lemon sourness, an herbal characteristic, and a saltiness all bundled into one. Both locations will have happy hour specials from 4pm-7pm. We will be handing out candy until it’s gone!

On Saturday, Lickinghole Creek will release its Virginia Black Bear  Russian Imperial Stout and its variant, Vanilla Black Bear. Live music and food trucks.

This weekend, Fine Creek Brewing Company we will release the ‘Farmers Only’ Dark Date Farmhouse Ale and one last keg of the ‘Owl Orchard’ Shinso Pear Saison.  This Saturday the Powhatan brewery will have live music from 4:30-7:30.

Midnight Brewery will release Christmas at Midnight, a 7% English Mild Ale on Saturday.

Now, Halloween was only yesterday, but luckily for all you fans out there, Hardywood is jumping right into its holiday releases, and it has something special this year! It’s selling its Complete Gingerbread Stout set starting today online and one pick up date. All of your favorite variants are included! The 2017 Gingerbread Stout: The Complete Set will include one bottle of each of their eight 2017 Gingerbread Stout releases and one limited-edition gold metallic-printed GBS goblet for $127.92. Here’s what you get: Original Gingerbread Stout, Bourbon Barrel GBS, Rum Barrel GBS, Apple Brandy GBS, Christmas Morning Rye Barrel GBS, Kentucky Christmas Morning and Double Barrel GBS. There are only 225 Complete Sets available so get yours while you can! Complete Sets will be available for pick-up at Hardywood’s Richmond brewery on Friday, Dec. 15, during taproom hours.

The official release of the Gingerbread Stout this year at the brewery is this Saturday, Nov. 4. Taps are flowing from 1-10PM with mobile menus by Arroz RVADank EatsSlideways Mobile Bistro & De Rochonnet Delights Chocolatier.

And on Friday, Hardywood will release Christmas Pancakes, a variant of Hardywood Gingerbread Stout refermented on maple syrup. Smokie JOE’S BBQ will be on site providing their mobile menus!

On Friday, Center of the Universe will release its Mo’saic Mo’problems, a tropical DIPA made with of course, Mosaic hops.

Additionally, on Friday, COTU’s El Duderino White Russian Milk Stout, Center of the Universe Brewing Company and The Byrd Theatre Foundation reunite to bring you a special event screening of the one and only The Big Lebowski. For the fourth year in a row, COTU and the BTF are proud to partner up to bring this cult classic back to the big screen. All proceeds from this event benefit The Byrd Theatre Foundation. The movie will begin at 8:30pm. Advanced tickets are only $10. Tickets sold at the door/day of are $15 each. Admission is only for those 21+ and includes El Duderino. Additional canned COTU beers will be sold at the theatre as well. Again, admission is 21+ only. “This is not Nam… there are rules!”

Kulture and Strangeways Brewing have collaborated once again for yet another mind-altering experience. On Saturday, they will release the Heady Harvest Ale. It’s an wet hopped IPA brewed with hemp seeds, fresh local hops and the two will have a few special treats in store for this event as well. The event will kick off from 3-4 with yoga in the back room from Mobile OM Yoga & Wellness. From 4-4:20 they will have a lecture on CBD and a CBD tasting (dab bar) for sampling. At 4:20 they will tap the kegs and start pouring. (Kulture) will be on site with their pop shop. Richmonds own DJ Mordecai will be laying down the beats, specials, Grilled Meats And Treats will be cooking up “Pot Sauce” wings with thier special blend of hot sauce and more of their tasty treats, and RVA’s own local artist Ana Rivera (Roibn Rabbid) will be there with some of her own unique art.

Three Notch’d Brewing RVA Collab House returns Thursday with its weekly collaboration. This time, they’ve partnered with Secretly Y’all fand the Library of Virginia for “Last Call”, an Imperial Brown Ale which has been aging in bourbon barrels for months. They are celebrating its re-release by enjoying a special storytelling event organized by Secretly Y’all. The theme for stories is Cheers, Beers & Tears. Please submit story submissions to secretlyall@gmail.com. $5 donation at the door. PLEASE NOTE SPECIAL TIME: 6pm-8pm. Stories will start at 7 PM.

Today, Final Gravity Brewing Co. will release Peregrine, an IPA brewed with Falconer’s Flight hops, with notes of citrus and pine.

Steam Bell Beer Works will do a bottle release of its Tiramisu Stout this Saturday. This 9% Imperial Milk Stout is rum conditioned and aged on whole vanilla beans + local Ironclad Coffee Roasters beans.

Vasen Brewing has several new brews for you to check out this weekend. First up, Tangerine Sour! This effervescent sour ale, brewed with tangerine peels, starts with a refreshing citrus tartness that leads to a medium malty finish. In addition to this new sour, they’re serving the new Green Bullet Lager and the Bourbon Smoked Farmhouse.

Tonight is $1 Oyster Night at The Veil Brewing Co., featuring Northern Neck Oysters. 4-9pm

On Sunday, Stone Brewing and Garden Grove Brewing & Urban Winery will release their collaboration Diversion, a saison brew. 2-8 pm at Garden Grove in Carytown.

On Saturday, Buskey Cider will release its Maple Spiced Cider. This spiced cider was aged on Maple Spirals and crafted with Real Vanilla Beans and Cinnamon Sticks, perfect to enjoy as the days get colder!

On Saturday, Trapezium Brewing Company will release its Salted Caramel Brown Ale. And, a tripleheader of live music from 6 to 9 p.m.
