Yet another brewery will be moving into the bustling craft beer scene in Richmond. But this time, it’s coming from out of town. Three Notch’d Brewing Company, based in Charlottesville, announced on their Facebook page today that they plan to throw their hat into the ever-expanding craft beer ring that is Scott’s Addition by next year.
Three Notch’d leased a 4,000 square-foot space on West Broad Street which they will share with co-op working space Gather which plans to move in there as well.
The concept will be a brewery and taproom or “Collab House” as they are calling it, with 75 percent of the beer brewed in collaboration which with restaurants, bottle shops, and community organizations.
“We’ve done it very succesffuly with a three barrel system here in Charlottesville we have our three barrel system pretty much booked about two months out at any given time and it really is a neat way for bars and restaurants to do something unique and come in and brew beer with us and drink the fruits of their labor,” said President and COO of Three Notch’d Scott Roth.
Roth said Three Notch’d wanted to replicate the operation they have in Charlottesville and Richmond has been on their radar for over a year now.
“We’ve been distributing in Richmond for a little over a year at this point we love the market it’s a great craft beer market Scott’s Addtion is home to a number of great breweries already…” he said.
Roth said they are planning to do as many collaborations as they can with restaurants, other breweries and homebrewers to “give people the opportunity to become a part of the brewery.”
The Richmond location will also have a 3.5 barrel system and have at least 12 tap lines. All the beer made there will be sold in the taproom or in other local restaurants.
“We’ll have our flagship beers that we offer in distribution year around on draft,” he said.
The other reason for the expansion into our exploding beer scene is Three Notch’d Brewery’s name, branding and many of its beers are rooted in Richmond history.
“It has to do with Three Notched Road which obviously is Three Chopt Road and Patrick Henry’s “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” speech was there {in Richmond} and that was the inspiration behind No Veto Brown,” he said. “There’s a lot of great history there we thought it was a very logical choice for us to expand into Richmond.”
This will be the third expansion for Three Notch’d. The brewery opened its doors in Charlottesville in February 2012 and then expanded with a second location in Harrisonburg in May 2014.
Roth said he hopes to break ground on the Richmond location sometime in January and be open for business in the early second quarter of 2016.
Once setting up shop in Scott’s Addition, Three Notch’d will join Isley Brewing and Ardent Craft Ales along with Veil Brewing Co. which is slated to open soon as well.
Three Notch’d is currently looking for a head brewer and taproom manager for the Richmond brewery right now so if you have the skills then head here or here to apply.
Stay tuned because we will have more on the brewery as their opening date gets closer!
