Now that Mother’s Day has come and gone, we can all go back to our normal routine, except keep in mind today begins Craft Beer Week! And like any alcohol appreciation event, expect plenty of drinks, food and people.

The best part about this beer week is that its all about the craft brews. Theres bound to be a wide variety of different craft ales and lagers. The best part is since it’s craft, many of the beers will be locally made and crafted specifically for Craft Beer Week.

This year will mark the 9th annual American Craft Beer Week and its not just happening in Richmond, this event is going on all over the country. Publisher of CraftBeer.com Julia Herz says “American Craft Beer Week allows everyone to honor and toast the hard work and success of the craft beer community.” Its all about embracing the local aspect of brewing and recognizing that many of the local bars and breweries started from very little.

Many of the local favorite bars and breweries have already started getting. Legend Brewery plans a week full of tastings, tours and food. They recently tweeted

Mekong also has a line-up of events as well as some very interesting beer tastings. They will be distributing a beer called Abraxas which is an Imperial Stout brewed with ancho chili peppers, cacao nibs, vanilla beans, and cinnamon sticks.

Another interesting flavor is and Imperial Stout brewed with huge amounts of chocolate malts, cacao nibs, and mint leaves. Theres plenty of other beer being introduced as well as more events throughout the week. Check out their Facebook event for the full list.

Over at Strangeways Brewery there will be more tastings as well as trivia and a cards against humanity throw-down throughout the week. Hardywood Brewery has some events lined up as well. Yoga, a food truck court and topping all off their their Good Day in RVA concert in conjunction with local radio WRIR.

Theres something for everyone depending on how you want to celebrate Craft Beer Week. Theres plenty of events scheduled for this week, so check in on your favorite bar or brewery so you know what’s in the works.
