The 2015 RVA Beer Madness Round #1 is in the books, and we had some massive battles in the first round in order to pick our competitors for the round of 32.

Every region had a few close matchups that came down to the wire. In the Downtown/Shockoe Region, we had a close one with Pasture pulling out a win over 23rd & Main, and a battle down to the very end with a slim victory by the ever-popular GWAR Bar over Southern Railway Taphouse.

The Fan/Scott’s Addition had so many close calls – The Savory Grain barely pulled out a win over Bellytimber Tavern, 821 posted a close and impressive win over Postbellum, and we had a huge win (an upset perhaps?) by Ardent Craft Ales, with some big heroics to take out Commercial Taphouse in Round #1.

In the Museum District/Carytown Region, we had the closest battle of all, with Bandito’s winning by one single point over Can Can, as Galaxy Diner eked out a win over the Daily Kitchen and Bar and newcomer Garden Grove barely defeated Don’t Look Back.

In the West End/Southside region, which is stacked with top level talent, we had some rivalries that took center stage: Corks and Kegs pulls it out this year against rival Once Upon a Vine in a close one, Total Wine had a surprisingly strong win against Whole Foods, Sedona Taphouse barely came through against American Tap Room, and Bucket Trade took a strong lead and beat out Brew.

This all leaves us with some power house games in round #2. We have a few matchups in the Round of 32 that pit powerhouse teams against each other. Here is what we are excited to see play out:

Station 2 Vs GWAR Bar: Can GWAR Bar’s legions of fans break though Station 2’s impressive lineup?

Hardywood vs Ardent: Can local favorite Hardywood hold its ground against the surging Ardent?

New York Deli vs Garden Grove: New York Deli is a Carytown staple, but can it hold on against the new brewery in town?

Strangeways vs The Answer: This is the matchup from hell here! I just want to pick both.

Cast your votes for our matchups for Round 2, and feel free to share this bracket with friends and businesses in our community.

You can also check out our friends at Trinkin.com to see what’s on tap at many of the locations in the tourney.

Round 2 voting ends at 12 noon Friday March 27th, at which time we will list winners and move to round 3!! Thanks for your time, and HAPPY VOTING!
