Charlottesville’s Starr Hill Brewery is known for releasing unique and delicious brews and the staff here at RVA Mag has been lucky enough to try almost all of them.

Their newest brews, which were released April 1 is the Four Kings IPA 12-Pack is a limited edition IPA pack featuring four different versions of the brewery’s King Of Hop Imperial IPA.

Included in the pack are the King of Hop Grapefruit, King of Hop Habanero, King of Hop Lemon-Lime and the original King of Hoop Imperial IPA. All of them clock in at 7.5 percent and use fresh ingredients.

RVA Mag had a chance to test these brews out to see what if they really were “Kings.” Check out our thoughts on the beers below:

The Grapefruit IPA is dry-hopped with grapefruit zest and you can really taste it in this brew. Grapefruit hits your nose and your tastebuds as soon as you take a sip. It’s tangy and citrusy and perfect for summer. Some of the staff thought it was a little too over-powering, but I for one liked the taste and it’s an easy-drinking beer. Not too hoppy.

The Habanero infuses American hops with habanero peppers that doesn’t have a strong scent, but still packs a little bit of heat once you dive into it. It’s not spicy on the tongue, but there’s a serious kick once it hits the back of your throat. Definitely a spicy finish and unique flavor. This was a favorite.

Starr Hill’s Lemon-Lime Imperial IPA is also made with American hops and infused with lemon and lime zest. This was probably my least favorite, but it’s still packed with citrusy flavor. The lemon and lime aromas hit your nose as soon as crack a bottle open. It’s sweet for an IPA, but it’s definitely drinkable.

The original King of Hops Imperial IPA is pretty hoppy, but still It’s soft on the palate, and surprisingly sweet with a citrus after taste. Very easy to drink considering its 7.5 It was incredibly smooth for an imperial. We actually had a chance to try this brew last May check out our thoughts and a few of the brewery’s other brews here.
