Strangeways Brewing Offers Cookie and Beer Pairing for Mother’s Day… Thank God

Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and I bet your mom is over getting bath bombs, plants and chocolate.

Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and I bet your mom is over getting bath bombs, plants and chocolate. How about letting the woman who brought you into this dysfunctional world know you love her with beer and cookies?

Not just beer and cookies, though. Ohhh no. Strangeways beer and Red Eye Cookie Co. cookies.

There is a God!

And it’s your mom, so be nice to her and take her to Strangeways on Sunday.

“We met the Red Eye Cookie Co. [at a festival], and of course they had their samples out, and they were delicious,” said Cheyenne Burnham, Events and Operations Coordinator at Strangeways Brewery. “I kept it in the back of my mind that I wanted to work with them in some capacity.”

Strangeways has done candy pairings before, so Burnham was hopeful that the cookie-beer-combo would work as well. “The majority of the pairings we decided on wouldn’t have been any that we would have just pulled out of a hat,” said Burnham, who was surprised with most of the final pairings. “It was interesting to see what cookie complimented what beer and that it was a legitimate pairing together.”

In keeping with true Strangeways fashion, the pairings are, well, bizarre. B-Sides Honey Bock with snickerdoodles and O.T.I.S Cucumber Melon Sour with oatmeal raisin are but two of the pairings customers can try.

“We started figuring out that… it almost had to be opposites, like sweet and hoppy. Or a more savory cookie with a sweet and sour flavor,” said Burnham.

Strangeways will offer between five and seven pairing choices on Mother’s Day, this Sunday, May 11.

“Now being that the craft beer scene isn’t just a men’s game… [this event] is a good alternative,” said Burnham. “And I think people just want something interesting.” But Burnham is quick to point out that the event isn’t just for moms. “It’s for everybody,” she said. “I made the joke on our Facebook, if you’ve ever had a mom, you’re welcome. We’re not discriminating.”

The beer and cookie paring will be offered as a special on Sunday, along with Strangeways’ “beermosas.” Asheville’s Circus Mutt will be strummin’ blue grass tunes all day.
