What’s happening craft beer lovers of RVA?! Welcome to this week’s “Tapped,” RVA Magazine’s go to weekly beer column.

We’ve brewed up quite a bit of news so all you beer thirsty folks can be in the know about recent news and actually have something fun to do with your weekend other than sitting on the couch stuffing your face with Doritos and binging on Netflix.

Fall is in full swing so we’re seeing lots of pumpkin, maple, different spices, apples, Oktoberfests nad other autumn brews from the breweries! Now hold on to your mugs because we’re ready to tap this thing!

This round is especially unique because its part of RVA Mag’s #Halloweekrva and we have been so lucky to partner with Hardywood Park Craft Brewery who has created a special brew for us!

First up, is the “Hardywood Bride of Frankenbier”, a Frankenblend of the brewery’s bourbon barrel aged Mega Stout and bourbon barrel aged Quad shocked with fresh IPA – this monster thriller features flavors of rich tootsie roll and dark fruit with notes of orange rind in the aroma, backed with a chocolatey finish. Enjoy if you dare! 11.3% abv. It’s a unique and special beer just for Halloweek locations this year. Special Tappings all week!!!

Hardywood will also put out a limited release of “Trickery” a stout aged in apple brandy barrels for 8 months for a smooth apple brandy finish. Warm caramel, blackstrap molasses, and chocolate covered cherries. 13.5% ABV. Available on Halloween!

LickingHole Creek will release its Bourbon Barrel & Ginger Tripel Release this Sat. Oct 24. LCCB has taken its Bourbon Barrel Tripel (BBT) and conditioned it on fresh ginger root to create a truly one-of-a-kind beer. The honey, citrus and bourbon flavors you’ve come to expect from BBT now with gingah – Yes! 11.3%

So this week folks can catch last call on Oktoberfest season at Garden Grove with their OKTOBERFEST CELEBRATION SATURDAY OKTOBER 24th from 4-10PM. Featuring live music, German fare and Hunt for Red Oktoberfest on tap.

Strangeways Brewing has brewed up some spooky and strange potions in their cauldron for you as well! The beer will have a special Havoc Black IPA at this event which is a black as night beer just in time for your Halloween that has some serious hoppieness. The hop profile brings in Citra, Simcoe, Sorachi Ace, Motueka, Cascade, Centennial, and finishes off with Mandarina Bavaria hops! That’s some seriously heavy hops that makes this a rare treat for a black IPA. Make sure and show up early to try some of this with us!

The brewery is also releasing “Gourd of Thunder”, an Imperial Porter brewed with local pumpkins making this a dank dark treat year around Fall and Halloween time. Think dark pumpkin pie species, but in a bottle with alcohol – what’s not to love? If you get the variants, make sure and try and get Gingerbread and Chocolate.

Isley Brewing is celebrating its two year anniversary from now until Sunday Oct. 25. Enjoy daily events, beer specials all week long, different beer infusions each day, Double Dare – Bourbon Barrel Pumpkin Belgian Dubbel, Boozy Mother – Bourbon Barrel Peanut Butter Porter, daily food trucks, live music from The Royal We, vendors, and of course some delicious birthday cake! CHeck out the different beer infusions such as a S’mores Porter and others at the link above!

Ardent and Hardwood have collaborated on a new brew, Chestnut Maple Altbier Sticke, which will be released at The Cask this Fri. OCt. 23 at 5 pm.

Ardent Craft Ales is also brought back their beer brunches. YES! This time, its Fall edition so be on the lookout for autumnbrews! Pizza Tonight who will be on the patio cooking up breakfast pizzas. Greenleaf’s Pool Room will be there serving up ice cream sandwiches, and from the bar, Ardent will have beer Bloody Marys made with local Texas Beach mix! Sun. Oct. 25 noon to 3 pm.

Blue Bee Cider will release its Barrel-Aged Hopsap Shandy this Saturday. The shandy is a delicious cider with layers of citrus and caramel.

Metzger Bar and Butchery over in Union Hill will host a beer dinner this Sunday Oct. 25 featuring Devil’s Backbone brews. The restaurant is wrapping up its weeklong Oktoberfestivities so get over there to enjoy five courses of modern German inspired cuisine paired with five traditional German beer styles from Devil’s Backbone.
