What’s happening craft beer lovers of RVA?! Welcome to this week’s “Tapped,” RVA Magazine’s go to weekly beer column.

We’ve brewed up quite a bit of news so all you beer thirsty folks can be in the know about recent news and actually have something fun to do with your weekend other than sitting on the couch stuffing your face with Doritos and binging on Netflix.

Fall is in full swing so we’re seeing lots of pumpkin, maple, different spices, apples, Oktoberfests and other autumn brews from the breweries! Now hold on to your mugs because we’re ready to tap this thing! This is a special Halloween edition with lots tricks up our sleeve and treats for you! But first check out what you missed last week:

Lickinghole Creek released its Bourbon Barrel & Ginger Tripel this past weekend. Yum!

Isley Brewing celebrated its two year anniversary with lots of different beer infusions such as Apricot infused Amarillo Kid a summer ale, King’ Peanut Butter Banana Porter, Smores Porter, Spicey Pepper Jah’s Fire Smoked Barleywine and Cilantro Lime Plain Jane. Featured below is the King Porter!

This round is especially unique because if you haven’t noticed RVA Mag is in the midst of our annual Halloweek! Check out our event page for all of our spooky and strange happenings! There’s still plenty of things to do.

And to top that, we have been so lucky to partner with Hardywood Park Craft Brewery who has created a special brew for us, the “Hardywood Bride of Frankenbier” a Frankenblend of the brewery’s bourbon barrel aged Mega Stout and bourbon barrel aged Quad shocked with fresh IPA – this monster thriller features flavors of rich tootsie roll and dark fruit with notes of orange rind in the aroma, backed with a chocolatey finish. Enjoy if you dare! 11.3% abv.

It’s a unique and special beer just for Halloweek locations this year. Find it at The Camel, The Broadberry, Continental Divide, The Answer, Capital Ale House and of course, Hardywood.

Speaking of Hardywood, they will also release Trickery – a limited stout aged in apple brandy barrels on Halloween. Warm caramel, blackstrap molasses, and chocolate covered cherries. 13.5% ABV. Available on Halloween!

Strangeways has geared up for Halloween with a ton of spooky releases! Try the new Black Havoc IPA, a dank, dark, black IPA or Rot In Hell Pumpkin Sour, Gourd of Thunder, or one of their Halloween inspired Curiosities and get a special discount if you come dressed up for the occasion. Strangeways will also be offering special Trick or Treat Flights thanks to Southern Season!

Isley Brewing is getting into the spirit with Halloween brews, and a BOO’zy costume contest this Halloween! The best-dressed will win win a Isley Swag Pack. The brewery will also be releasing The Boozy Mother Bourbon Barrel Peanut Butter Porter, in 22oz bottles starting at 12pm.

Triple Crossing will release its newest hop forward elixir, The Masque of The Red Death Imperial Red Ale on Halloween! The beer was brewed in collaboration with The Poe Museum just in time for the Halloween!!

Legend is thowing its own Halloween party which will feature, music, a costume contest, prizes and of course a special beer release! The party will feature the brewery’s newest beer, Bleeding Nun Spicy Stout.

Garden Grove is also throwing down with its own Halloween soiree. The brewery will hold a costume contest all day and all night! Put on your best costume and win swag and/or a $50 gift certificate.

The Answer will tap Firestone Walker Brewing Co.’s Velvet Merkin on Halloween The brew is an Oatmeal Stout aged in bourbon barrels. The brewpub will also have some delicious doughnuts from Buttermilk Bake Shop for doughnout and stout pairings! Check ’em out!

Center of the Universe has quite a few spooky things going on this weekend! On Thursday, Oct. 29, the Ashland brewery will throw a Halloween Haunt partywith the scary cast of King’s Dominion Halloween Haunt. There will be games, raffles, food Trucks, and a costume contest.

On Halloween night, COTU will release “EL Duderino”, a White Russian milk stout brewed with 12, different variations of malt and aged on whole vanilla beans. The result is a decadent 6.5% milk stout!

Lickinghole Creek will release its Virginia Black Bear and thrown down on the Goochland farm this Halloween! Its a Russian Imperial Stout with a 9.3% ABV.

Midnight Brewery is hosting a “Trick-or Treat Yourself Halloween Bash”. Come in costume for 15% growler fills before heading off to your dozens of other Halloween parties!
